Harry and eeerrmmm - Smith Quits

According to the beeb:

Smith 'makes Portsmouth exit'

Redknapp 'felt unwanted'

Jim Smith has quit as assistant manager of Portsmouth, according to reports.

Smith was said to be upset by the row between Harry Redknapp and chairman Milan Mandaric over the arrival of Velimir Zajec as executive director.

Pompey boss Redknapp, who threatened to resign over the row, had earlier urged Smith to stay at the club.

"It is up to him but I'd be devastated if he did go. We have been a team since day one and it would be difficult to replace what we have," he said.

Redknapp said he almost quit over the arrival of Zajec, but agreed to stay when he was told he would keep control of first-team affairs.

Smith, who has been in management for 36 years, joined Portsmouth in 2002 and helped lead the club to Premiership promotion a year later.

Last season, Redknapp clashed with Mandaric again when he thought the chairman was planning to replace Smith.

Redknapp said he intends to take a short break from football

Harry Redknapp has resigned as manager of Portsmouth.

Redknapp said his decision was not a result of his row with chairman Milan Mandaric over the appointment of Velimir Zajec as executive director.

"It is something I have been thinking about for a while. I made it without any pressure from the chairman or the board," said Redknapp.

Zajec will take charge of first-team affairs, but the club would not confirm assistant Jim Smith had also left.

At a news conference to announce his plans, Redknapp, 57, said he had not made any decisions about his future.

"I will now spend a short period of time to rest, recharge my batteries before contemplating my future," he said.

Harry and I remain great friends

Pompey chairman

Milan Mandaric

"I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to the chairman and his board for their support, to the players and all the supporters who have been absolutely fantastic to me and the club during my time at Portsmouth FC."

Either a cricket score, or a backlash!

Would say backlash if it wasn't us. I think we have a decent record recently against newly mangerless clubs. I'm sure Sam said that after Saints away this season.
