  1. "Matt Busby had asked me to join Manchester United the year before, but for some reason or other I decided to join Bolton Wanderers, who were in all fairness, one of England's top sides at the time." Those were the days.

Politician's in general should just fuck-off out of sport. It's one of the few things they haven't managed to ruin.
  3. Colin Lee scored four. Ian Moores scored three. Peter Taylor and Glenn Hoddle scored one each. Spurs went up on goal difference that season.

I was exhausted just watching that. Those boys really do earn their money. Never thought i'd see another British champion in my lifetime. Great sportsmanship from Djokovic. Shame that bellend Alex Salmond couldn't behave with a bit more dignity.
  5. You can say that again. Bolton were seen as being the equals of Utd back then but we made a massive blunder when we royally fucked up the signing of Duncan Edwards who went to Old Trafford instead. Imagine how many league titles we might have won with Lofthouse and Edwards in the same team.
  6. True but in 1954 they were averaging around 37,000. Our average attendance was around 34,000, although we did finish above them that season.

    Bbc Archive

BBC are now in the process of digitising their archive which will also include the Football League's own archives: http://www.bbcmotiongallery.com/gallery/home/showreelsbbc.do#showreel=15253269 There's some early uploads of BWFC stuff including broadcast footage of entire games including the play-off semi-final v Ipswich in 1998/99 and the League Cup final v Boro, including pre-match build-up. There's also some interesting clips on there as well including the Bolton dressing room before the 1953 F.A. Cup final: http://www.bbcmotiongallery.com/gallery/clip/1B25857_0005.do?assetId=clip_16332741 Goals from Arsenal v Bolton F.A. Cup replay at Highbury in 1980 (starts at 59:20): https://www.bbcmotiongallery.com/gallery/clip/2B0102B3B_015.do?keywords=bolton%2Cwanderers (There's an option to view footage full-screen)
  8. There's loads of Spurs footage from the 1977/78 season on YouTube. It's strange seeing them playing the likes of Mansfield, Bristol Rovers and Orient in league games. We played them four times that season. The attendance for the league game at White Hart Lane was over 50,000.
  9. Our average attendances were pretty much the same as theirs around 1953-1954.
  10. Watched 'A Field in England' last night on Film4. What a pile of shit.
  11. You're right! Wolves did win the title but Chelsea had the biggest average attendances. We had three attendances of over 30,000 that season in the old Second Division, not to mention an attendance of over 50,000 for the League Cup semi-final second leg. Those were the days!
  12. It was indeed Chelsea who were champions of the old Second Division that season. We finished 4th with bigger attendances than any of the other promoted clubs, including Forest. We were one of the best supported teams in the country that season, with higher average attendances than half the teams in the old First Division.
  13. In 1976/77 only one club would have been above us in the home attendances table. Bonus points for anyone who knows the answer.

Good job Andrew Castle wasn't commentating when this happened. He would have had a coronary.

I liked the way Murray swore at himself at the changeover after losing that second set. 'WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!' It was just the gee up he needed. The BBC felt the need to apologise of course. I sometimes wonder whether they think the rest of us live in some sort of cartoon world where the F-word is never uttered.
  16. Don McCullin, legendary war photographer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b036j3fp/imagine..._Summer_2013_McCullin/ There was an equally brilliant programme about another photographer, Vivian Maier, in the same series last week: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0366jd5/imagine..._Summer_2013_Vivian_Maier_Who_Took_Nannys_Pictures/
  17. Just watching it for the fourth time! Looks like the BBC didn't broadcast the entire set because 'Spacer' now appears in the new extended iPlayer version. Daft Punk bit at 1:32:24: http://www.bbc.co.uk...astonbury_2013/ Now that's LOUD!
  18. If you think that sounded dark, you should listen to the soundtrack he wrote for a film called 'The Proposition'. The film's well worth checking out as well. Brutal and brilliant.
  19. The Stones - 'Paint It Black'. (One of the songs not broadcasted on the BBC)
  20. Crowd trampling starts at around 10:30. Is there a more terrifying sight in rock than Nick Cave bellowing into your face whilst standing on your head? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=900EuCsxgys
  21. Fred, Jo and Bernard in the Brazil squad last night. It just doesn't sound right.

Laura Robson chucked that away. Looked like nerves got to her again.
  23. Anyone see the bit in Nick Cave's set when he literally trampled over the audience, forgot which song they were playing next and couldn't work out how to get back on stage?
