  1. I like Nixon when it comes to transfer talk but he's been off the mark with this takeover malarky for months. The heads of terms have been signed, and in the statement announcing it, the administrators said the following in relation to the Trust : "in particular, I’d like to thank the Eddie Davies Trust who have shown a deep and true understanding of what Bolton Wanderers means to the fans and the wider community" That does not sound to me like they are having significant issues. Nixon just appears to have an agenda against FV. Claiming that the club losing the asset of the ground and having it rented back, a la Coventry is good business is the final straw for me. Fingers crossed we get an update this coming week.
  2. I think if there's one thing about Nixon in this takeover process since admin, it's that he hasn't really had a clue what's really going on. They wouldn't be meeting Parkinson in public if they weren't confident of closing this thing. They probably wouldn't be meeting him at all. Let's just be patient and wait for them to complete. The wheels are in motion, pre season games being sorted. Matter of time now for this saga to be over and we can get back to talking about football.
  3. I don't think one side of the debate is correct to be honest. There are valid concerns to be had about him staying. Likewise if he hadn't, the quality of his replacement. All we can do is see if it stands the test of time. One thing he won't have is fan patience however, and that, I think could be a big problem. I can imagine a lot of fans forgetting that we have started pre season very badly organised.
  4. I didn't say we played total football all season, hence why I even quoted Bradford away. There were many games we played good football, likewise some that were bad. When we were promoted and everyone was on the pitch against Peterborough, or when Wheaters header went in against Port Vale, no one cared. Nor did they when Wilbraham scored the winner against Forest the season later. The same Wilbraham fans were going nuts about pre game that Parkinson started him. In my opinion winning games trump's style every time. Totally respect your own if you disagree. That's what these forums are for.
  5. Like you say - can have our own opinion. Some games in L1 were pretty bad in terms of style of play, Bradford away sticks out. There were a number of decent showings though, this one wasn't so bad: My own opinion is people get too over drawn on style of play. Playing passing football isn't synonymous with winning football. I remember when everyone clamoured for Coyle post Megson, and then the minute things went poor, the style of play was forgotten and he was hounded out. If we are winning games, who cares. I'd rather watch a winning team than one that passes a lot and achieves nothing.
  6. Think Oztumer was pretty fair in his assessment. Parkinson did bring him in, it wasn't working, so we went more direct. I don't necessarily agree with it, but at least we can see the rationale. In League 1 I think we can expect Oztumer to be a starter. We played some great stuff last time out in league 1 at times, especially when Vela was CAM in behind Madine. People are hung up on the season just gone, and I get it, but Parky has shown he's capable in this league. There isn't much time till the season starts, so fingers crossed he can get it right.
  7. Good to have a clearer idea of manager. Suspect FV just giving Parkinson time given the short space till beginning of the season. Got us promoted, kept us up and then when people didn't get paid we were relegated. Hardly the worst manager we've ever had. Based on his record he could walk into another L1 club. No question. Looking forward to the fans who refuse to come while he's manager, coming back if we win a few games. I do wonder if we actually changed manager whether the loyalty would be unquestionable, even if we were bottom of the league losing every week. Of course it would...🤷‍♂️
  8. I think the squad was good enough for promotion but I also don't think just because you're good enough, it guarantees it would happen. Look at Sunderland the season just gone for example. I am not saying I am Parkinson's biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think it would be fair to quash the achievement of promotion simply with "the squad was good enough". It will make for an interesting week anyway, he may be out of the job come Friday. I am hoping that when FV are announced as the team that signed heads of terms, that we will learn more about the experienced footballing professional they will be bringing on board. I'm not sure if that would be announced today, but it would be nice to know regardless. That might give us a better indication of the direction and philosophy we are moving forwards with.
  9. Remember when he went on Sky Sports holding up a Bolton shirt claiming he had transferred £1m to pay wages and he would get the game on? Don't worry through "Sir Save Rich will be on board". Ok Laurence, whatever you say.
  10. We all know that when Bassini says "I have the money" , it is vastly different to actually proving it.
  11. Getting us promoted first time of asking under a transfer embargo, after our horror show of a season in the championship under Lennon Keeping us up in the championship without a penny spent on transfer fees. I completely get people dont like the playing style, I haven't enjoyed watching it at times either but in my personal opinion he is head and shoulders above candidates like Keane if we ignore the car crash of the season just gone. Parkinson has a proven record in League 1, and that is why I am most curious in terms of who we would consider as a replacement.
  12. It's a very fair question. If you compare PP's record with the likes of Keane, Phil stands head and shoulders above them. It depends on the direction we want to take. I think Marc Iles said a few months back that FV wanted to follow a "Preston" approach bringing through youth. On that note, then David Lee isn't a bad shout. Again though - that's a very risky approach as he has no experience. It's a huge decision to take and I'm fascinated which way they decide to turn
  13. I'm not saying 100 percent I'd keep him im just offering an alternative view. Last season's a write off for me. If I look back at the other two seasons he's done a fantastic job and I think we shouldn't forget that. I think FV will change manager, for what it's worth, I was just curious to see if there was any opinions on here that he should be given some time under some more stable ownership
  14. I know I am probably going to get obliterated for this but if you take the last season out of it (which I think is fair) if we judge parkinson on: 1) promotion from league 1 2) kept us up with a non existent budget 3) knows league 1 better than most managers 4) given our precarious position, we will need some of those released back, he could help with that Keeping Phil might not be such a bad idea. I'm not saying we should, just more so I can think of many worse managers we could have in league 1. I know change is the fashionable thing etc but come January if we have a manager that plays nicer football but we are bottom 3, people might not be so happy. On the flip side the football could be unbearable! Truth being told I don't know what the "correct" decision is, but I don't think it should be as black and white as just letting him go. He does deserve better than that in my honest opinion
  15. Luca has joined Celtic. Good player, with potential but badly advised and some poor actions. Won't be missed.
  16. Indeed. While there are no guarantees I am much more optimistic now. I think if this was bad news it would have been announced a few hours ago.
  17. Didn't go as far as to say it's off etc. We know there's a statement coming, today, so may as well sit tight for that rather than spread fear.
  18. Can we not just wait for the official statement before speculating? Doesn't do any of us a world of good worrying that the deal is on or off. All we can do is keep hoping something pulls off.
  19. Was just coming on here to post the same thing! Off he pops.
  20. My expectation for this "update" is just to reiterate that things are moving "in the right direction" and while they are taking longer than they would like, it is on track. I could be totally wrong here, they could even be saying they are walking away, or that the deal is complete! Time will tell, but my bets are on another delay.
  21. Sorry - I should have put the link: https://twitter.com/MarcIles/status/1144207774894755840
  22. Update from the administrators expected by the end of today. Fingers crossed we get good news.
  23. The silence isn't good for any of us but I do think the £1m injection is a totally separate matter to the previous funding provided. This from the Bolton News just a few days ago seems to reiterate this " It is understood Football Ventures have planned ahead and injected £1million into the club for running costs but the bulk of the work can only be done once they have completely agreed a deal with existing creditors and put their name above the door." We all want news, but I would hate for the rumour mill to go into overdrive and spread panic even more so. Until told otherwise, I think all we can do is surely believe what has been said, which is that there are circumstances that appear incorrect to report, one assumes on personal grounds. The delays are obviously worrying - FV dragged this out for ages back from Feb through April or so, but I just hope they are the real deal this time. I do wonder if this drags past Friday, what the administrators course of action would be.
  24. I'd make Gerald Cid look like Sergio Ramos.
