Ipod Touch stuck in recovery mode

I have a iPod Touch 4th Gen or later that is stuck in recovery mode. It isnt recognised by my iTunes and after checking on YouTube I have tried the forced reboot with the power button & home button but it doesnt work . After that they all want me to download some 10 year old programme .

It was working fine up to about a fortnight ago , any suggestions ?

Cheers.

P.S. Ive also tried rubbing it with a balloon !
