This aint on i was reading a paper today (sun or star i think) about the game against boro and it was only in the second column the story got onto the match. the first bit was all about how much of a cheat Diouf is. something about a dive in the box in the last min nothing about both Goalkeepers making good saves or Davis missing a sitter or Nolan's shot just all about how much of a shit Diouf was

I see no fuss has been made about that lazy, shit donkey Heskey diving to earn brum a penalty. For a big man he goes over so ragging easy. One could fart and he would go down as if hit by a ragging sniper.

I dont know if anyone read the Times yesterday, but there was a whole article dedicated to diouf's cheating. Its ridiculous! maybe he dives, but he is just one of many in the premier league and beyond. Nobody is calling for Pires or Rooney to be banned for 8 weeks!

Diouf remains immune to Barwick's diving plea

IT IS barely two weeks since Brian Barwick, the FA???s new chief executive, clocked in for his first day at Soho Square, but already his calls for players to show ???more honesty??? appear to have fallen on deaf ears.  

 

El-Hadji Diouf???s comical, last-minute tumble in the penalty area during Bolton Wanderers??? 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday not only tarnished still further the forward???s unsavoury reputation, but again thrust into the spotlight the thorny issue of players diving.  

 

In his first public pronouncement in office, Barwick went so far as to brand diving, or simulation as it is technically termed, ???cheating???, but after Diouf???s latest flirt with theatricality, it is clear it will take more than just a few strong words to address an issue that threatens to sour the game beyond all recognition. The line from the FA yesterday was that while the issue is not being dealt with publicly, it is being looked at, but until they come up with a punishment to fit the crime, the problem will persist.  

 

Diouf was not booked by Alan Wiley, the referee, for his fall under an innocuous challenge from Stuart Parnaby, the Middlesbrough defender, but even had he been, it is doubtful a card of any colour would deter the Senegal player from diving again in the future. Only three weeks ago, Diouf, who is on a season-long loan from Liverpool, provoked similar outrage when he was accused of diving to win a penalty in Bolton???s 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.Mark Hughes, the Blackburn manager, castigated Diouf for his play-acting, but rather than condemn his own player, Sam Allardyce, the Bolton manager, merely suggested diving had become part and parcel of the game and that Diouf was not alone in doing it. Worse still were his comments that, by defending his player, he was only doing what Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United manager, and Ars??ne Wenger, the Arsenal manager, have been doing for years.  

 

Herein lies the problem. If managers continue to defend their players for diving, then players will continue to do it, especially if it can gain their team an advantage. Diouf???s blatant dive against Blackburn was probably his best yet, but he has been trying to pull the wool over referees??? eyes now for a long time. In October, he appeared to dive twice in the hope of winning a penalty when Bolton beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at the Reebok Stadium, and the previous January he was booked for diving in Liverpool???s FA Cup tie with Yeovil Town.  

 

In the FA Community Shield in August 2002, Arsenal players rounded on the former two-time African Footballer of the Year when he went to ground easily, but fruitlessly, after a challenge by Patrick Vieira, and the next month he was seen to dive in Liverpool???s Champions League draw with Basle.  

 

The FA is powerless to change disciplinary procedures during the course of a season, but the issue must be high on its priority list come the summer months. Having called for greater communication in all quarters of the game, Barwick will also be hoping that players such as Diouf start to listen to what he has to say.

WHAT TO DO WITH EL-HADJI DIOUF? Just when it seemed that he could not sully his name any further, the much derided Bolton Wanderers forward found himself embroiled in yet more controversy yesterday after Middlesbrough players accused him of diving during the 0-0 draw at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.  

 

Diouf, a second-half substitute, tumbled in the penalty area under a challenge from Stuart Parnaby, the Middlesbrough defender, with just minutes of the game remaining. Alan Wiley, the referee, turned down Diouf???s appeals for a penalty but did not book him, even though television replays of the incident clearly support the view that the Senegal forward dived.  

 

???He has clearly created a bad name for himself in the game,??? Chris Riggott, the Middlesbrough defender, said. ???I just get on with my football and don???t get involved in other things that happen on the pitch, but one or two of the other lads had a few words with him.??? Frank Queudrue, the defender, was seen motioning at Diouf to stop play-acting and while Steve McClaren, the Middlesbrough manager, declined to comment about the incident, his anger at the player???s perceived dive was clear.  

 

The latest controversy to surround Diouf comes just three weeks after he was accused of diving to win a penalty in Bolton???s 1-0 defeat of Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Brad Friedel, the Blackburn goalkeeper, was adjudged to have tripped Diouf in the penalty area, but television replays again showed that he had dived. On that occasion, justice appeared to have been done when Friedel saved Diouf???s spot-kick, but the two-time African Footballer of the Year converted the rebound.  

 

Brian Barwick, the FA???s new chief executive, is certain to take a dim view of Diouf???s latest antics. Barwick has vowed to rid the game of what is termed ???simulation???, although he prefers to call it ???cheating???, and is understood to be compiling a dossier on an issue that continues to blight the game.  

 

Diouf provoked similar disgust among Middlesbrough players and supporters during the reverse fixture at the Riverside Stadium in November, when he was accused of spitting a mouthful of liquid at an 11-year-old fan. Cleveland Police investigated the claims but did not bring any charges. The same month, Diouf, who is on a season-long loan from Liverpool, was charged with improper conduct by the FA and banned for three games for spitting at Arjan de Zeeuw during Bolton???s 1-0 home defeat by Portsmouth.  

 

He was also fined two weeks??? wages by Bolton for a ???serious breach of club discipline??? and given a final warning by Sam Allardyce, the manager, only to be accused last month of spitting during the Barclays Premiership game away to Birmingham City. He was cleared.  

 

In September 2003, Diouf was fined ??5,000 by Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to assault under provocation for spitting at Celtic fans during Liverpool???s Uefa Cup quarter-final at Celtic Park in March that year. The previous November, Diouf was accused but later cleared of spitting at West Ham United supporters. He was also banned for three international matches in February last year after being found guilty of violent conduct in the African Nations Cup quarter-final with Tunisia.

If each incident knocks, say, ??1/2 million from his value, Liverpool will end up paying us ??1 million to sign him!

hope they keep slagging him off, it may help us to get him for a knock down price.

Vieira's dive against Liverpool a couple of months back was THE most blatant tumble I've ever seen. Gerrard didn't get within 2 feet of him - but he hit the deck, full crumpled facial features, the lot. The diving, spitting, cheating, most sent off w??nker. And he feels he's entitled to have a go at other players?

 

That's what gets me - the f??cking hypocrisy. It's not that I don't think Diouf dives etc etc, but you'd think he f??ckin invented it
