I'd instruct my brief to issue a summons for his arrest for assault

 

Typical bacon not knowing the law. A summons can't be issued through civil law for a criminal matter leading to arrest - only a civil matter for the civil courts - hence no arrest would be made.

 

However, a writ could be issued to sue him for damage/mental trauma as a result of said assault.

 

ALSO, the plaintiff could make a formal complaint to the police which could lead to arrest for assault. This would also then make the defendent (Neville) liable for any damage/mental trauma sustained should he be found guilty - and he would have no choice but to pay the compensation ordered by the court.

 

FUTHERMORE, the victim could also claim through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority - although this would be unlikely in this case - as the defendent is loaded and would have no reason not to pay the compo himself.

I can confirm I was a teeny bit wrong in my explanations

 

Only a "reckless assault" wouldn't be allowed before a civil court - a s39 or s47 assault could be.

 

Though in terms of the Neville incident - I would argue it was in fact a reckless assault. He commited the action he did without specific intent - yet, completely without regard for the spectators. So in that case I was right - it wouldn't be allowed before a civil court

 

Though if it was deemed a s39 or s47 - indeed Officer - a summons COULD be issued for his arrest. My apologies.

After the ruling in White v Chief Constable South Yorks Police 1991, those complaints from people at home won't lead to direct charges or compo for the complainants.

 

One would have to witness the event live, and be damaged as a result with a "diagnoseable psychiatric injury" (Brown v Heinze). However, criminal proceedings could be brought for a Breach of the Peace, as I doubt either would support charges for assault.
