Altered format

Two qualifying rounds and the first round proper will open the competition, at which point 40 clubs will advance to the group stage. This part of the competition comprises eight groups of five teams with two matches at home and two matches away for each team in each group. The winners, runners-up and third-placed team advance to the knock-out phase, at which point they are joined by the eight clubs which finish in third place in each of the groups in the UEFA Champions League group phase. From this point, the 32 clubs embark on a knock-out competition, playing two matches against each other on a home and away basis. The club scoring the greater aggregate of goals qualifying for the next round. In the event of both teams scoring the same number of goals, the team which scores more goals away qualifies.

Anyone know who are in the current UEFA positions from the "bigger" european countries (Spain/France/Italy)

An extra 16 games in the season. Do you think we will "opt" out of the FA Cup and League Cup then?

1st round proper I think? Qualifiers are for sh*t teams in wales etc..

this season newcastle's 1st UEFA game was first round proper on september 16th so i don't think we will need to pre qualify.

we go straight into the proper thing.

there is something about teams with 'previous' building up a 'history'

 

obviously we are at the bottom of that table

 

not sure if the country you play in counts as well though

just checked on uefa site it is 'england' not the club that build up history

Even Millwall went straight into the 1st rounds proper.

Millwall's first-ever opponents in European football will be Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros.  

The Lions will play Ferencvaros in the Uefa Cup first round, which sees Rangers playing Maritimo of Portugal.  

 

Newcastle play Israeli outfit Hapoel Sakhnin, and Middlesbrough will meet Banik Ostrava of the Czech Republic.

 

Therefore we won't know our opponents until late August assuming things stay the same.
