Joe Cole is possibly Englands most overated player since the equally overated Paul Scholes.

 

He can't shoot, takes people on in the wrong areas, frequently gives the ball away and overestimates his own importance to both England and Chelsea!

 

Won't get a start in that Chelsea side this year and anybody who thinks he's the solution to Englands left wing dilemma is going to be extremely disappointed the first time he comes up against a semi decent right back.

Paul Scholes was an embarrassment for England. Having the ability to pass the ball sideways and screwing the ball wide of the goal at will does not constitute a great player. Can't remember a time after the Scotland game where I thought he was effective for his country.

Scholes relied on his goals v Scotland for 3 years, the manager wouldn't drop him coz he was a munich.

Joe Cole can be entertaining and would walk into most Premiership starting line-ups - well those with manager's intelligent enough how to use him.

 

Paul Scholes was top banana for many years. Ran the midfield for Utd - who just so happened to rule English football for the best part of 10 years. He was still quality for England even though he didn't score enough (remember his hat-trick against Poland at Wembley?). He's played the majority of his football for the leading club in England, with 10+ Champs League games per season and been an England regular.....

 

....no-one else can claim that.
