Sam wants to manage abroad.

Featured Replies

This may well be sacrilege, but all this self promotion is starting to get on my tits a bit.

has sam said that??? i think its fair enough if sam wants to do that. he has done so much for bolton that we cannot legitimatly argue with him. maybe he can poach a quality manager on loan for when he leaves...

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that he wants to work abroad at some stage in his career.

Allardyce has been in charge of Bolton since 1999 and transformed them into an established Premiership club who are currently in the Uefa Cup.

He told BBC Radio Five Live: "Some very good managers have left this country to go and manage in a foreign country and done exceptionally well.

"That is something I want to challenge myself with, maybe later on my career."

Allardyce, who has previously managed at Blackpool and Notts County, is keen to emulate the exploits of other British managers who have succeeded abroad.

"Coming into a foreign country and succeeding as a coach is a fantastic challenge," he added.

"Howard Kendall, Bobby Robson, Terry Venables, John Toshack and Graeme Souness - it shows we have had very good managers leave this country and do exceptionally well."

Charlton manager Alan Curbishley, who has been in joint or sole charge at The Valley since 1991, said it is extremely difficult for an English manager to make their mark on the Premiership - especially at the top clubs.

"The only way a young English manager gets in the Premiership as I see it is if he is promoted in the Premiership with his own side and stays there," said Curbishley.

"As Sam has said, if he changes his name to Alladerchi maybe he will get a chance.

"It is down to the chairman, they run their clubs, it is their decision. All we can do is carry on and do as well as we can."

Sam Allardyce and Alan Curbishley will be discussing English managers on BBC Radio Five Live's Sport on Five programme at 1900 BST on Wednesday.

whats he got after this season another 3 left think it is

he said he wanted to retire after his ten year deal is up

and it sounds the opposite now he is linkin himself with england and abroad so thatll be the next 1 sayin he wants another contract after this 1 ends and the scramble will then begin

Whats more does he want?

He has managed in Bulgaria, and with Turkey & Portugal to go, doesnt seem that bad to me!!

If he gets his finger out of his arse and gets us out of the group there will be even more countries on offer to him ](*,)

I think his point went a bit to shit when he mentioned Sourpuss!

he wants to manage a broad, what like a pimp

I'd love to work abroad too, but you don't see me going on about it in the papers.

I'd love to work abroad too, as a drugs mule, but I'm worried that I would quaff all the gear.

:D

Although I have the greatest respect for Sam, and there will be a day when he leaves, but I think he should have just kept his gob shut on this matter. Yes, everyone should have ambitions to move on and improve but only in football can you go so public and basically say ???come and get me??? while under contract. Some things just don???t need to be said.

Good for him if he wants to manage abroad, he brought this club maybe as far as he can, he's got us into Europe, into the top half of the Premier League from the middle of the 1st Division in 5/6 years. What next can he do for Bolton on a limited budget? Maybe win a Cup Final? Get to the latter stages of the UEFA Cup? Get us a couple of places higher in the league?

If he wants to go and manage abroad then who's going to stop him if a high profile team come in for him? Maybe if a high profile team came in for him, it would enhance the clubs popularity, and get us known on a wider scale. Then a manager equivalent to Martin Jol come in. As much as I like English manager and their passion for football, then maybe it wouldnt be all that bad if Allardyce went managing abroad.

If this was a player talking then it would bring the boo boys out.

maybe his discussions in the boardroom are getting him nowhere and its times for him to air his washing?

Wouldn't be suprised if it was an attempt to scare the board room into releasing some funds for players.. either way, do i think he could be a good england manager? yeah probs kick some of the mardy f00kers into touch, but maybe he should stick to keeping this club as a european side rather than emailing his ( newly translated ) cv abroad.
