Only ever been to that ground twice. We lost 3-0 and lost 2-1. Sandwiched inbetween those we won (with a scorcher from Sneekes) and then ever since we appear to have won.

I'm not looking for any thanks, but wondered if anyone else had NOT seen a Bolton victory at The Valley.

the only time ive been to the vally is when i was a wee lad, and we lost 3-0..think it was the first season back in the first division in 93. never been able to make future trips to the vally for various reasons.

while we are on about the skids did anyone see them at manny apollo on the absolute game tour many years ago?,they dragged some drunk punk up to sing t.v stars that night. i went to see 999 a couple of months ago here in bristol,and during nasty nasty the lead singer handed me the mike,

apart from the line 'what the hell is wrong with you 'i was a bit stuck and had to pass it on quickly to avoid further embarrasment!

Stuart Adamson committed Suicide if i'm not mistaken

 

I watched Big Country support the Stranglers once and they were excellent......

 

Can't get my head round suicide, perhaps it's me optimism

i saw big country a couple of times,and yes stuart adamson died in america in some motel,after splitting up with some bird,not sure wether it was suicide or a drug overdose though.as for the stranglers,i saw them at manny apollo some time in the 80's and they were pooh,although i had been seeing the u.k subs matinee at the poly earlier in the day and the stranglers had gone past the punk thing by then,they were moaning about people spitting.

And I like UK Subs, thought they were great but their song writing (Charlie Harper) and performances were never in the same class

 

Stranglers have sold more records than anybody else in the punk era and that includes the Sex Pistols, Diversity is what makes them, from the hardcore of Rattus to the love songs on La Folie (the madness of love) and Norfolk Coast proves that they still have the talent even without Hugh, in fact Hugh's last album (Hi Fi) was absolutely wonderful

 

Greenfield is back with the organs, Jet's drum patterns are and were years ahead, JJ's bass supasses anybody in the last 20 years, the only one who comes close is that chap from the Chilli Peppers.... Baz Warne (Sunderland season ticket holder) can do anything with a guitar... only thing that lets them down these days in Paul Roberts who has a tendancy to ruin some of the classics although Valley of the Birds is in my top 10 all time Stranglers greats

Loft, give me a better bass opening than Peaches........ and you're right, I've never heard of LES CLAYPOOL / PRIMUS..... post a track and I'll reevaluate

Widnes, try to have a listen to Tales from the Punchbowl by Primus, all good stuff and his bass throbs throughout. But especially on track 12. Over the Electric Grapevine.

i was not comparing the subs to the stranglers musically or lyricaly,just saying the subs were the better gig on the day,as for the gig itself,i think it was the raven tour,although i might be wrong,it was some years back,

you are obviously some sort of huge stranglers fan,and i am not although i do like a lot of 'punk bands from around that time.

as for the simpleton remark,and the you know nothing about music remark ,i think you may find that i do know quite a lot about music ,punk being my speiciality(thats not saying the stranglers were punk though).

F??ck sake the Raven tour was 1979 and that was my first and best ever gig, the raven backdrop when it rolled down with longships was sureal.... you need to listen to the 79 manc gig again, Shah Shan a Go Go was f??cking superb the Raven sung by JJ was the elixira of the gods, who wants the world was trialled and Baroque Bordello was amazing
