The two managers did not make these decisions alone. It has already been said that WHFC & MCFC are businesses and will be run as such, therefore Pardew & Pearce will have consulted the board, the marketing department and probably even the sales department.

 

What sells more tickets and shirts? What brings in more revenue? Is it winning the FA cup or getting into Europe? They have both done their own calculations, made their forecasts and made their choice. The managers will have then picked the teams accordingly.

 

In terms of upsetting people, the FA will be bottom of the heap along with other clubs in a relegation battle which do not affect either team. Fans would have been considered for nothing more than how much can they get out of their wallets.
