Ladies Are Plate Winners

 

BOLTON WANDERERS Ladies first team won the North West Regional Football League Plate Final on Sunday 7 May 2006 against Manchester Stingers.

 

In an exciting final at Bamber Bridge that finished 3-1, Vicky Price scored in the opening minutes to take the lead for the Wanderers, who then continued to dominate much of the game.

 

Stingers equalised but then with an unfortunate own goal put Bolton ahead into a 2-1 lead. In the middle of the second half, an excellent move saw Rachael Woods cross the ball into the box and Charlotte Banner place past the keeper to create an unassailable lead.

 

Clare Smith, in her last appearance for the Wanderers, put in a stirling performance and almost scored in the dying minutes only to be denied by the post.

 

Paul Maloney, the Team Coach, was ecstatic with the result.
