Bugger, just got a letter through telling me I have been selected for Jury Service, I have manged to defer it, but I have been told at some point in the next 12 months I will be called up, and I will not be allwed to defer again

 

Now, having never done it before, I'm wondering what happens with regards to my pay. Does naybody know if my present company are obliged to still pay my normal wage or not? - according to my letter, they can re-emburse me for "lost earnings" up to ??58.16 per day...................which is neither use nor ornament.

 

Anybody know what the script is with Jury Service? Anybody had the 'privilage' of being selected before?

 

The only upside is it appears that I can claim ??5.00 per day as lunch money

You do not qualify for jury service:

 

if you are currently on bail in criminal proceedings

if you have ever been sentenced:

to imprisonment, detention or custody for life

to be detained during Her Majesty's pleasure or during the pleasure of the Secretary of State

to imprisonment for public protection or detention for public protection,

to an extended sentence under section 227 or 228 of the Criminal Justice Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995, or

to imprisonment or youth custody for 5 years or more

 

When I did jury service, I was paid by my employer but I dont know if its an obligation.

 

It was the most tedious 2 weeks of my life.

 

you spend most of the time waiting around so take a book, and the rest of the time listening to some scrote swear blind he didn't knick that coat from Debenhams even though he's on CCTV and was caught wearing it.

 

I had one case where a bloke denied knicking a van load of fur coats even though the van, complete with fur coats, were on his drive and the keys were in his jeans pocket.

I deferred about 6 years ago and have heard nothing since.

I've been selected twice. Got out of it 1st time saying i had a criminal record with a list as long as your arm. On the second occasion i did it & it was quite a good experience.

 

Not allowed to tell you about the cases i was involved in, cause it's against the law.

On a serious note, most employers will top up your salary after the compen the court gives you to bring you up to your normal wage.
