"In Britain unemployed people will be approached and offered information about vacancies and advised on how to improve their chances of obtaining work."

Isn't that what they pay jobcentre staff to do

read something years ago about a town in america where the council set up a nursery, and gave everyone a part-time job whilst their kids went to the nursery. there wasnt any option about it. im beginning to think its a fookin good idea!!

what the government need to realise is that people who dont want to work can have all the info in the world and they wont work anyway. stop benefits for long term unemployed. ( i said unemployed- not disabled, incapacitated etc- so dont bite my head off folks!)

Yes but like any other branch of the government they are only interested in their wage and their pension. I was unemployed for about a month or so a couple of years back and the jobcentre were totally useless they were offering me part time bar jobs even though i was an experienced IT manager!

As for the jobshy scrots of this world, national service, if you have claimed benefits for more than 3 months even though there are jobs available then force them into boot camps. See how long they stay out of work then.

Heard a debate about this on R5 earlier. Geezer said that in the States, Clinton had brought a rule that stopped Welfare payments after a maximum of 6 months. Result: Tax down, less unemployed, and those menial jobs that are 'below' the locals are no longer filled by immigrants.

So they won't do that here then.

Obviously Georgy Bush has changed summert then as Unemployment in the states is at it's highest since the depression.
