Zico Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 What about O Brien, he'll be back next season. I feel like I'm the only one who ever mentions him, he is still there! I don't think he's up to scratch in a midfield role at this level full back, did well last season but not had the all important 2nd season where we can see what he's really about hope not, but fear the injury may send him the same way as Dean Holden he plays in Scotland now, poor bast?rd

The lad has had quite a few set-backs this season and has got nowhere near a comeback. With these type of long-term injures you seem to either have the bouncebackability of Gardner or be in the pit of no return.
mickadoo Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Alright, he's no wonderkid yet, but Sam must obviously see something in him, keeping faith this long and getting the top surgeon for him. Didn't Hierro rate him highly too, I think.
Zico Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 i dont believe he's had the chance to be judged. he's played there a couple of times for us and looked lost, everton on last day of season being one game i recall a sheff wed fan i know described him as "pretty good" in that role (in div two)

And make him captain for his last game because he'd been so good? Let's not forget, he was about 19 then, McAteer only broke through in Div 2 at the same age

Unfair to base too much of an opinion on that. In fact I seem to recall one incident in that game where he was in a spot of bother, maturely played the simple ball to a man in space (Speed) who then skied the ball into our own penalty area. Saw him play the 2nd half against Seville in that friendly we arranged. Only a friendly but thought he did well.
enzo gambaro Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 nolan has been a big let down this season too, this was first spotted in a rather insightful wways boro match report back in september as i recall Anyone who took until September to see how shit Nolan is was extremely slow on the uptake. Oh, but wait, I forgot. We're better with him than without him. Silly me.
