England B

I've had a quick look round and haven't seen this mentioned yet. Kevin Davies is set to be named alonside Owen & Defoe in the England B Squad playing at Burnley. Also there is some talk of our very own Captain Fantastic may be included.

Now I can see some reasoning behind including Davies, as the lad is as good at what he does as anyone in the league IMO. Whether or not you can get away with steaming into defenders and winning honest brave challenges at international level remains to be seen. But if it happens then well done KD, but at 30 has any real chance of winning a full cap passed him by........probably.

kevin d is not an international class footballer....but....if we need to play more english football especially against the poorer teams in qulaifying tell me someone better.....................

I'd sooner have Davies than Crouch anyday of the week.

crouch is a much better player than davies.

which you'd prefer in your team is your opinion.

its in todays mirror

Davies is much more of a handful for defenders IMO, his workrate, tracking back, and aerial threat are better than most forwards I have seen in recent years. But obviously Crouch is a much better goal scorer. For what its worth I don't rate Crouch that much as a target man. For his height he is average in the air.

As someone said before, if England wanted to play a more direct (English) way, you could do a lot worse than KD. It will never happen though.

However neither KD or fat c?nt Nolan are good enough to be in the full England squad

davies is good enough if england play to his strengths. But then the style of football wont be pretty to watch. As for nolan just not good enough at the moment

As much as I was against Crouch being called to play in the early days, you can't fault his scoring record. Davies wouldn't touch his scoring record but would give his all. Don't think giving your all is enough at International level

If you play one up Davies is a much better player with his back to the opponents goal than Crouch.

His goal ratio doesn't show this, look at the facts. Also - England would never play one up front - with it being Davies

To be fair he scored 11 goals in a calender year for England, a new record.

But who against, Uruguay, Hungary, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Greece, Andorra & Macedonia. Not exactly the worlds best are they. I accept he has done reasonably well for England. However i still don't think he is good enough to be in the team. Crouch isn't good enough to get in the Liverpool team week in week out. Enough said i think.....

And how many has he scored against decent opposition?

Crouch isn't international class either, but him playing for Liverpool means he's in the England squad anyway.

You can hide a lot by looking at facts, SGE rein in charge of England makes great reading. But he was shite IMO.

I'm not doubting Crouch is a better forward than Davies, but his record makes him seem a better player than he actually is.

The purpose of a holding centre forward is to bring his own team mates into play when the ball is played up to him. I repeat Davies is miles better at this than Crouch who has a crap touch which is a liability at international level. Goal scoring statistics are an irrelevance when compared to overall team performance..

Couldn't agree more - as a target man, KD is the best around.

You're right, but has anyone said you weren't??

I think Crouch is overrated. I wouldn't have him replaced by Davis though.

Is that Sean or Curtis Davis??

For what its worth i think you're right Crouch is totally overrated. However can you name a better target man better Davies

Hang on, i already know your answer Dean Ashton......

totally dissagree, peter crouch does not a have a bad touch and is a helluva lot better than davies bringing others into play.

davies tries to do to much at times and therefore gives the ball away far to cheaply.

drogba aint a bad target man

i'd swap him for davies, anyway

My mistake. Davies.

For me Davies is one-dimensional. IMO international players need to have more than one string to their bow.

Shearer was better than Davies at holding the ball up. But he could also do a lot of other things well too.

Ashton has the potential to play a similar role to Shearer. Certainly at top flight level. Time will tell if he could at international level.

My main point however is simply that Davies is not a good enough all round player to play for England.

but he's french dumbo !!!

He's from the Ivory Coast and plays for their side. He has lived the majority of his life in France though.
