August 26, 200718 yr pitiful, less than 19000 bolton fans on to watch world class players, 3 0r 4 bigger crowds in the championship and 1 crowd 20% bigger than ours in the old 3rd division. Edited August 26, 200718 yr by Mounts Kipper
August 26, 200718 yr Depends where you start from. It was 60 miles for me as I went to the game whilst on a weekend away in the Lakes. Passed the Lancaster whites coach on the way back and I know plenty of people who travel 30 miles plus for every game. Cannot understand people who live within the borough of Bolton moaning about the location of the Reebok - it's a quid bus ride from the nearest bus stop to most pubs in the borough. In the last 10 years I've had a pint in 7 different places near the Reebok. Sorry but to say there are no pubs is simply rubbish. If you don't want to go - fine - but please do not give meaningless excuses. As other posts have pointed out most clubs have similar issues about prices, the board, seats, press speculation (muck raking lies) etc etc but still get much better support. Great entertainment yesterday - anyone who is a fan but didn't go yesterday missed out - it's all about what the team do on the pitch. Hopefully the crowds will return when they realise we are are playing good football - if not hopefully they will shut up moaning with petty excuses and allow the rest of us to continue enjoy supporting our team. Cmon you whites. I'll try that again.,.... Disagree about the choice of pubs arguement. There are only four pubs within reasonable walking distance from the Reebok. All of which are too over-crowded on matchday to get served. Clubs should be based in a town centre.
August 26, 200718 yr Aahhh .... I always thought a few bevvies was part of going to the match, not that the match was part of having a few bevvies.
August 26, 200718 yr Our crowds have always been up and down......I suspect that if the team had put on some semblance of passion and fight against Newcastle, there may have been more there. There are also many supporters like me who did not renew season tickets, for varying reasons (after 16 years, although I was there yesterday). This is a transition season for many fans, and after the performance yesterday, and with it being everton next week, the gate will be back up at 25,000.
August 26, 200718 yr Aahhh .... I always thought a few bevvies was part of going to the match, not that the match was part of having a few bevvies. Fickle bovril-brigade eh? Horses for courses and all that, but a good old beer session is all part and parcel of going to the match. It's the whole day out rather than a few ours for me and most other people I knock around with..

August 26, 200718 yr no it doesn't you said walking distance i know folk off here who use 6 different watering holes and fcuk knows why you feel the need to argue when you manage to drag your arse 250 miles (sometimes)
August 26, 200718 yr no it doesn't you said walking distance i know folk off here who use 6 different watering holes and fcuk knows why you feel the need to argue when you manage to drag your arse 250 miles (sometimes) Principle! I hate having to make an effort to have a beer (sometimes)
August 26, 200718 yr One of the major problems is that our 20k crowd at KO time had dwindled to half that for the last 5 mins. Why FFS??
August 26, 200718 yr the distance from greenwood & behive to the bok is only the same as trotters (duck &fuckin) &the alma to burnden just not as much fun on the way.
August 26, 200718 yr I know it is a little tedious, but i am gobsmacked and amazed by our support, we used to be so passionate in years gone by when we were shiiiite, one of the main reasons I was drawn to BWFC was the complete and utter devotion our fans used to show for the club despite our mediocrity, I suppose my expectations are too high of our supporters. Can't argue with that Mounts. I think that soulless stadium and its geographical location have a lot to do with it.
August 26, 200718 yr I agree with that but in years gone by we had a different type of supporter and even a different type of player. In the not so distant past you had players that still saw themselves as working class and thats how they came across. You felt you could relate to them and them to you. Its a different game now. If you had told Super John he would be flying to an away game he'd have laughed. Now its not only expected they expect 1st class aswell. About the same time this change started to occur the game started to attract a different type of fan, fans who wanted to visit the fancy new stadiums and spend their hard earned, they knew nothing about what going to the game meant and clapped politely in all the right places. The football world thought these fans were the future, more money and less risk so they bumped up the prices, it didn't matter that the notrights couldn't afford it because the seats had been sold to this wonderful new breed. Unfortunately without the notrights the new stadiums lost all the atmosphere and the new fans have now got bored and fooked off. The notrights have lost touch with the mates they went to the match with so neither set are turning up and you are going to struggle selling these empty seats. Thats my take on it anyway its a nice romantic view and you're not the only one to trot it out, but before the new money came in, mainly from tv, football was dieing on its feet crowds in the glorious 80s were getting lower and lower by 1986, crowds were at their lowest since the war many were lost because of the notrights you speak of
August 26, 200718 yr Yesterday's crowd would have been much lower, but for the 2,500 free tickets given away to the Asian community in a bid to widen the fanbase.
