Reserves

NEWCASTLE United Reserves maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they ran-out 3-0 winners over Bolton at St.James' Park

It was an impressive display from a young black and white side with Aussie winger James Troisi and North East duo Darren Lough and Jonny Godsmark on target for Lee Clark's side

It was Troisi (48) who broke the deadlock, firing home from close range at the far post after Jonny Godsmark's low cross had skidded across the face of goal.

Left-back Lough (69) doubled the advantage with a low, left-footed drive from the angle of the penalty area which flew beyond Ali Al-Habsi in Bolton's goal

And Godsmark wrapped things up with an injury-time spot-kick after he was felled in the area by Bolton keeper Ali Al-Habsi for which he was given his marching orders

Troisi came closest for the Magpies in the opening period, his 25-yard drive clipping the outside of Habsi's post

But the best chance of the half came the way of Bolton striker Leslie Thompson, his chipped effort clearing Mark Cook's crossbar after Edgar had failed to cut out James' Sinclair's throughball

Lubomir Michalik should've seen red for a tug on Godsmark with the United striker through on goal on 28 minutes, the referee instead opting to show yellow

Joey O'Brien then brushed the side-netting with a stinging 25-yard effort for the Trotters but the score remained goalless at the break

The visitors couldn't deal with the pace of the Geordies' frontline after the interval, Godsmark in particular causing all sorts of problems

Troisi obviously had the taste for goals and was unlucky not to get his second with a vicious shot in the 87th minute which stung the palms of Habsi

Campo and Stelios not getting a game in the reserves either? Glad to see Joey O'Brien get a full game under his belt although at this moment in time (and for a change) Right Back isn't the main worry in defence.

stelios is still injured i think. only came back from an operation in greece last week.

Campo is being disruptive in the camp (so to speak)

Out of favour is an understatement

Probably why he keeps sitting with the stretcher bearers at home games!
