Where as we have them on a Monday, most of the German ones are in the middle of the week - Weds or Thurs.

 

A lot of Companies then offer 'linking days' to the next weekend, so making a nice 4 or 5 day break!

It's true, and the Bavarians have even more than the rest of the Germans. When I was working in Munich, it was like we were never at work some months. If the public holiday falls on a weekend, they lose it though, it doesn't carry over like ours do.

If you're referring to the wearing of a poppy as antagonistic, they're a bit more grown up than you. They have no problem with the us being respectful to our fallen servicemen. The poppy isn't just about the two world wars anyway, it's also about remembering all our fallen servicemen and supporting their families through the Royal British Legion, including recent conflicts - the Falklands, the balkans, Iraq x2, Afghanistan. If you had a life you might not have such a blinkered view.
