That game had all the ingredients for a good day. big team (at the time) with big players coming to town, the town buzzing with cup fever and it was the featured game on MOTD and this was when the camera's were at only 2 or 3 games and Bolton would only be on MOTD (if we were lucky) once a season.

Yeah, that's my best memory. Some fan (from Bolton, but supporting Newcastle that day) nicked my 'lucky' hat, so that spoilt it a little for me. As I remember it though McDonald score two. One of them was where he started his run from the middle of the pitch headed the ball down several times before shooting it in the net. Is that the one you're referring to as one of the best seen? I also seem to remember Whatmore missing a sitter that day. Looking back on that season I still think we were very unlucky. Isn't that the season we missed out on pronmotion by goal average, then the following season was goal difference and then we finally went up as champions?

Running down the motorway to get to Elland Rd v Newcastle.

Now that does bring back some memories. How long ago is that 30ish years??

 

In the days when ties lasted forever. Draw at Burnden, then a draw at Newcastle. Before a replay at Elland Road?

 

Managed to get a ticket for the replay at Elland Road. Do I remember it corretly loads of Leeds fans there with Bolton?

OK, back on topic, how about 6th round at home to Wolves 1958; just under 60,000 on Burnden; down to 10 men against the champions to be (no subs in those days); time going backwards. Was squashed in the Burnden Paddock, near the front. Fantastic afternoon.
