 : DRUNKEN Burnley and Blackburn fans brought chaos to a train when a large brawl broke out.

Passengers were left in shock after the fight erupted in the train carriage before spilling out onto Blackburn station.

Police said a group of Clarets fans boarded the stationary train, full of post-match Rovers fans, just after 7pm on Saturday.

Two gangs of supporters are thought to have started trading abusive comments before the fight broke out.

As shocked passengers looked on, the violence continued as the men flooded out onto the platform.

British Transport police were alerted to the situation and five men were arrested for public disorder offences. They were taken to Greenbank police station for questioning.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "This was a very unpleasant incident.

?Drunken behaviour of this kind is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the police. Such incidents ruin the enjoyment of match days for the majority of law abiding fans and will be fully investigated by us.

"We would urge anyone who witnessed this disorder to come forward and contact police."

While the Clarets had been celebrating a 3-2 home victory against Southampton, Rovers fans had been commiserating their 11th successive Premier League game without a win, following their 3-0 defeat by Wigan.

It is the second time in recent months that Rovers fans have been involved in violence while travelling on trains.

Following their 0-0 draw at Bolton, rampaging fans ripped metal work from a carriage and used it to dent the roof before smashing the train's window and hurling fireworks around.

Anyone who may have witnessed the fight is asked to contact British transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 .
