All Bids Accepted, As Long As It Is Around ?4.5m

Featured Replies

Got me thinking, the 'magical' ?4.5M bid for a Bolton player. How many players have we sold around this figure:

Blake to Blackburn 30/10/1998 ?4.25M

Curcic to Villa 23/8/1996 ?4M

Gudjohnsen to Chelsea 20/6/2000 ?5M

Jensen to Charlton 20/7/2000 ?4M

McAteer to Liverpool 6/9/1995 ?4.5M

Ricketts to Middlesbrough 31/1/2003 ?3.5M

Stubbs to Celtic 1/8/1996 ?3.5M

Thompson to Villa 5/6/1998 ?4.5M

Frandsen and Gunnlaugsson just failed to make the ?3M threshold.

Add Nolan to the list at ?3.5M to ?4.5M and Gartside has yet another player to add to his magical list.

Makes me wonder if the payment terms for Anelka are 3 lots of ?4.5M?

So your saying its Gartside's fault? Do you honestly believe all those sales were his choice?

Since he's been the chairman,i'd have thought he has a reasonable input in the decision whether to sell players.Wouldn't you?

maybe thats just the average value of decent players we have?

He wasn't Chairman for most of those transfers!

which is why i said since...........

In fact, only the Ricketts one happened while he was in charge!

But you (sorry not you but Yatesy - edit) talked about HIS magical list implying he was somehow involved

Didn't he become chairman in 1999?

Yes for the ones hes been chairman for, the manager will of also had a big say as would the player leaving. The person who would of had the biggest say would of been the bank manager, some of them left because we were skint at the time thus the buying clubs took advantage. So why only Gartside gets mentioned is unfair.

Didn't he become chairman in 1999?

Yep, you're right - three players

Yep, you're right - three players

and he was also a director at the same level as the Warburtons and Hargreaves as far back as 1989.

Gartside has been involved in the club a lot longer than the time he was Chairman, and was playing a very significant role in the club prior to his promotion to Chairman.

Anyhow, the post is not a dig at Gartside in the slightest - it is an information thread to illustrate how we seem to sell a significant number of players in the ?3.5M to ?5M bracket. Traf queried this on the Nolan thread so I thought I would just place some meat on the bones. The line was a throw away jokey comment that it almost seems that our selling negotiations stop when the buying club's bids reach ?3M to ?5M!

The mood on WW is such that you have all jumped on one line in this post that you can hang your negative comments on.

At the time everyone of these seemed terrible

blake did little after he left

sasa concentrated on shagging

eidur was always going to play for a big club, fee was a fuckign joke

santa missed him, but he stayed at the same level

ricketts what good business

stubbs was a waste of talent going up there

thompson terrible mov for him and bolton

per came back for less we saw the best of him, arnaur very strange man

eidurs fee was never going higher

bank wanted cash

nobody else would match chelseas up front figure, for a (crocked?) footballer
