Veloso

Miguel Veloso's agent has claimed Manchester City have held talks over a deal for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder.

Veloso was linked with a move away from Portugal in the winter transfer window, with Bolton Wanderers demonstrating an interest in his services.

But a switch failed to materialise after it was suggested Sporting would not settle for less than a fee of ?15million.

However, the the 22-year-old's, agent Paulo Barbosa, has stated that affluent club City could be poised to make an offer for his signature in the summer.

Barbosa said in The Sun: "We have had some talks with Manchester City.

"I am still in contact with the clubs who were interested in January.

"There is an agreement with Sporting that he will leave this summer but we don't have an agreement with any other club about a transfer as yet.

"England is his first choice, and he already speaks good English. Everything is possible at the moment."

We'll never match citeh's spending power so if the article is true we'll have to look elsewhere :(

Shit happens, we'll just move on to the next target: assuming Veloso is still a target of ours.

For some reason i was quite hopefull of signing him and getting that player with a bit of guile in CM

Looks like we'll have to settle for Xavi or Iniesta

I would have liked us to sign this guy but 15 million is alot of money

I would take Gelson fernandes for a couple of million if veloso goes to City veloso seems trouble to me and may take a year or two to settle, where as Fernades is settled a could do a good job as a defensive midfielder.

In answer to the Topic question : Yes.

?15m is a lot of money for us, and Veloso's agent sounds like a bag of tricks. I'd look elsewhere.

If it's not to mean't be it's not mean't to be. <_<

We move on =D>

I've said it many times, and I've still not changed my mind; he can't get into a piss poor Sporting side, I can't see how he'd be much better for us. And he's left-sided which is where we are already strongest.

Why Miguel Veloso said no-go

Feb 15, 09 03:15 PM in The Mole

It's hard enough persuading players to sign for Bolton.

So the last thing Gary Megson needed as he launched a club record bid for Miguel Veloso was Arsenal fans trying to hijack the deal.

The Mole hears that the Sporting Lisbon star's agent received calls and texts from the Gooners - pretending to represent their club - insisting Arsene Wenger was ready to sign Veloso.

The fans had spotted that Wenger's team needed a ball-winning midfielder to fill the chasm left by Patrick Vieira.

Veloso's representative replied, sending details of how much Arsenal must bid - ?11million with a 30 per cent sell-on fee, with ?4m paid up front and the remainder over the next two years.

Sporting were waiting for the faxed bid from north London, while his agent revealed it was Veloso's dream to play for Arsenal. Talks with Bolton collapsed amid interest from a "mystery" Premier League club.

I think we tried to sign Fernandes just before the transfer window closed last august, it would be a cheaper option and he has experience in the prem. I wouldn't be surprised to see us go in for him again.
