In the last transfer window I would have been a 'No', In fact I would probably have been a 'No' until about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, but after suffering yesterdays performance reality has set in for me and I believe that Barton as a prem player of proven ability but dubious temperament may be about the best we can hope for, in my opinion better than some un-proven foriegn player who needs time to settle in and may just not be 'up to it', same with players bought from a lower league (although so far Meggers hasn't shown much inclination in that direction anyway).

If we signed Barton on a contract with clauses to protect the club in case of serious trouble then I'm reluctantly for it, I now think our football is so unattractive and our reputation so tarnished that we can't be to fussy when it comes to signing new recruits.

I also believe, as mentioned by others on here, that the tackle on Alonso was no worse than many late challenges and while it warranted a red-card should now be forgotten.

Oh, I almost forgot, I can't really see him going anywhere other than Blackburn.

I keep changing my mind, I said after last weeks incident that I wouldn't, but that was after reading all the tabloid shite. As others have pointed out, yes it was a bad tackle, but it wasn't the worst I've seen (I'm suprised Mark Davies' didn't get criticised at the weekend, saw his later on MOTD and it was a shocker), and then all he said was that Shearer was shite, which we all know and which Shearer deserved for reacting the way he did and ridiculing his player for what was only a late tackle.

 

I've now changed my mind back to being a yes, if the contract was right and there were clauses for any further offences etc then I would have him in our midfield like a shot. He has the ability and bite (if he can control it) to greatly improve our team.
