Garrp that has to be a fishing trip? And not a very good one at that.

Nope, after the big fours centre backs, I cant think of anyone better

Fair enough, I'd personally prefer Cahill, but fcuk it let's have them both and have the best of both worlds :good:

Don't get me wrong, id rather have Cahill and im sure he will end up being much better, but I can't think of anyone better to have alongside him.

He was badly out of form for a large chunk of the season and with Sol Campbell having a mare as well was probably the main reason why Adams got sacked.

Found his form again under Hart but might no longer be as good as many of here think he is.

Agree with that. He was asleep at times. I still think Scharner from Wigan is a more consistent performer.

I take it you dont rate Ronaldinho then?

Even the very greatest players peak and decline.

Distin is on the way down.

Don't agree with me - that's fine by me - but a season or so will soon tell which one of us is correct.

I was pointing out that if we didnt sign someone because they're form dipped, we would be fucked.

a dip in form is the reason for us signing the majority of our players

Very good player and given what we've got in that department, and the amount of clangers they dropped, he'd improve us no end (thought he's prone to the odd one himself)

I'd be equally as happy with Dunne though, perhaps a little moreso

Sorry.

I had missed your point.

(possibly because our current transfer policy does seemed to have moved away from that practice, with probably only Kevin Davies left, being of that sort of signing).

Matty Taylor?

Mark Davies?

Smolarek, Makakulu & Pugrenyier?

Veloso if were still in for him?

I'd add Samuel and AOB to that list as well.

Forgive me if I've missed the point again but -

I would have said Rednapp had bought better players which forced Taylor out of the Portsmouth team - than Taylor losing form.

Wolves desperately wanted to hold on to Mark Davies. It was a bad injury that had stopped him playing in the Woves team, not lost form.

Smolarek, although a regular player for Poland, never seemed to have any form so to speak of hence being at a different club every season - and why he's signed precontract for a mid table Greek club!

Makakulu as only ever shown form in a second division Portuguese side - so out of his depth despite being an international.

Pugrenyier had a one season wonder in the French league and as been unable to step up in either the Russian or the Premier Leagues - not a question of losing form.

Veloso - well we've not signed him yet but gladly would have paid ?12 million for him in January!

So as far as I can see not a single one of those signings came to us during a drop in their form?

Edit

For O'Brien see Matt Taylor comments (Sol Campell, Distin or Andy O'Brien - who would you drop?).

For Samuel, O'Neil came in as manager and favoured Wilfred Bouma. He then bought in England international Nicky Shorey, which made Jlloyd third in the pecking order - once again not because of loss of form. To be honest wouldn't you pick Bouma and Shorey before Samuel? - I would.

Did you base of your opinions from seeing the players or by reading wikipedia stats?

If they were on form, they wouldn't have been out of the side for other players.

No brainer for me even if he did fuck us off a while back.

Just hope he plays along side Cahill and not instead of him.

Sean Davis aswell Megson :good:

Referring back to Dunne - the City fan at work says he has had 4 red cards this season, this means part of 4 games with 10 men, I would guess 7 or 8 games missing through suspension, throw a few bans in for yellow cards and that's a quarter of a season.

I would rather take a slightly poorer defender who played 95% of the games that someone who plays 75%

Guess you go watching Portsmouth and Villa a lot too and saw for yourself how out of form they were! ? Thought not!

It was Redknapp and O'Neil who BOUGHT other players to play in the positions that Taylor, Samuel and O'Brien where playing in (not me!) - football's all about strengthening the team - just because a player is giving 100% doesn't mean that he is the best player in that position! That is why the transfer system exits!

All the players you mention were not out of form - they were either not good enough for the step up, wanted by their club, or simply become surplus because better players had been bought and replaced them in their team.

Now if you had mentioned Kevin Davies, Djorkaeff, Campo, Jay Jay, then I would have agreed with you but as I said we now seem to be working to a different transfer policy.

Strikes me as one of them mercenary types who'll go to the highest wage payer, and so for that reason iamout!

As opposed to the other type of player?????????????

No, your talking crap.

If we need to, im sure we can go on a villa site and ask if Jlo and Mccans form had dropped, but your telling me it didnt. These are two players who were both huge crowd favourites, but by the time they left would have paid to get rid of them. That of course was nothing to do with poor form, just wanting to get better players.

as for your excuses about the 3 loan players, talk about digging a hole.

Ah so you didn't know what their form was like first hand you are just going off some hearsay on a Villa fans forum - must be right then.

You telling me that the majority of Villa fans would say that Samuel and McCann are better players than Petrov and Bouma who replaced them? How many of even our own fans would keep Samuel and McCann if offered Petrov and Bouma? We are even linked to Paul Robinson from West Brom even though Jlloyd played in every Premier game for us this season!

And what sort of recommendation is being a fans favourite? Peter Nicholson and Barry Cowdrill - just to name two - were huge crowd favourites who give their all for us - doesn't mean they were any bloody good though!

And as for digging holes - I'm sure where our three loan signings kick off next season will give us some idea of actually how good they are - one of them is going to the mighty Aris Thessaloniki who aren't even in the top five of the Greek league!

Can't wait to find where these other two superstars end up!

why do you always go off on a tangent?

where did i say i didnt know what their form was, i suggested a villa forum to show that your talking bollocks

where have i said samuel and mccan are better than petrov and bouma

what your saying is if Pompey go and sign someone better than Distin, then he no longer had a dip in form, he was just repaced by a better player

ive not said wether any of them are shit, wank or amazing

your saying we dont sign players who have had a bad run off form, which is absolute bollocks

JLO was in the england U21 team, his form dipped and he got dropped

the same happend with Mccann

Me go off at tangents!

I missed your original oblique point - I'm sorry if it upset you.

I went on to comment that there as been a clear change in recruitment policy at Bolton - surely you must agree that?

You then gave me a list of players names who you inferred we got simply because they lost their form - I disagreed.

Mark Davis you claimed - here's what Wolves said at the time!

"We actually want to keep him and have offered him a new deal, but he doesn?t want to stay and has put in a transfer request.

So, if there?s a deal that can be done, then it could happen.

It?s a real shame because he has come through our Academy and is a good player, but hadn?t played for almost two years due to injury.

He eventually gets fit and goes out to Leicester and has done well and now wants to leave.?

http://www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-s...97319-22780558/

Now tell me again how we got him because he had a dip in form???

So what do you do - claim I only deal in Wiki Stats - thanks - no going off at a tangent there then!

Oh but I only know about the players through reading about them - but you know their form how? You didn?t go watching them did you?

You then tell me I talk crap and tell me I've dug myself a hole over the three released loan players? Really? Smolarek is going to Aris - do you really think he'd be going there if he was just out of form rather than not being good enough at a higher level?

I didn't disagree at all that in the past we have done very well out of getting players off form - very well indeed - but these players you claim - Mark Davis for instance - simply do not fit that pattern.

You really seemed to have got a bee in your bonnet about me simply because I disagreed with your assessment of how good Distin is!
