Puygrenier moves to Monaco

 

 

ST PETERSBURG - Zenit St Petersburg have loaned French defender Sebastien Puygrenier to Monaco for a year, the Russian Premier League club said on Tuesday.

 

Zenit said on their website the French club have an option of buying the 27-year-old fullback at the end of his loan deal.

 

Puygrenier joined the 2008 UEFA Cup winners from Ligue 1 side Nancy on a long-term contract last July but after a disappointing few months was loaned to English Premier League club Bolton Wanderers in January.

Puygrenier was not the sort of defender we needed

 

but because he scored on his debut, was bald and rated at ?6M coming from Zenit everyone thought he was the bees knees

 

we conceded far too many with him at the back

 

his signing last season further highlighted how desperate we are for a good partner for cahill

 

and how tough it might be to find one

from the game at blackburn, it was obvious he had weaknesses

 

unfortunately, a centre half has to be able to head a ball

I thought he could have been an excellent player in the Campo role,we all remember Campo was gash in defence,but when Sam switched him to playmaker he was a revelation.Pug in that role would have given us some class imo.

He looked useful & was certainly a better pick for me than Shittu or A'OB last season. Never got a look in after that nasty challenge he received against West Ham
