Home Insurance Policies, Etc, Etc

Featured Replies

Mate had a water pipe burst. Got in touch with insurance 24/7 call out - etc - they said couldn't get out until following day.

In the meantime to avoid massive water damage to 3 rooms, mate fitted his own stop tap temporarily to the pipe to contain the water flow.

Major damage avoided.

Plumber turned up at 5pm yesterday to say the policy was now void as the pipe had been contained!!!

Mate contested that he'd saved the insurer ?000s if not ?0000s.

Not worth the feckin' paper they are written on!

that's where being a council house scum bag comes to the fore, we had a leak in the bath room, called Sixtown Housing they sent a plumber within half an hour, 15mins later he's fucked off and the pipes fixed!

Belting :good:

a couple of years ago during some bad weather, a couple of roof tiles blew off our roof.

i rang insurance company, who came and assessed the damage. said we needed scaffolding because our house is 3 storey.

anyway a week later and after 3 days of scaffolding, job was done and i saw the repair cost, ?2400 for TWO roof tiles!

anyway a year later the SAME tiles blew off. which turned out becuase of poor workmanship (wrong mortar).

so this time i got a quote to fix by some local chap (he said ?280), which i then proposed to insurance company.

they refused to use him, even though i was saving them a shit load of money.

and i argued to point of poor workmanship last time round and refused to pay the excess. but they still made me pay before they would action the claim.

fukcin useless twonks!

Insurance is the biggest scam going,

Thank God we have the NHS and not forced into health insurance schemes.

ombudsman.

as the insured he has a duty of care to minimise damage, to reject the claim because he did so would be deemed unfair, he would win.

Yes - about 5 years ago i complained through the ombudsman . It"s a bit of form filling & quite drawn out ( over 6 months in my case ) but he ruled in my favour , so stick with it.

As a final act of petulance, the insurance company made out the cheque to the builders even though they knew i"d paid them months beforehand.

Recently claimed for a laptop repair, I can confirm they are utter useless c?nts, the lot of em

Should've fixed it myself, would've been cheaper than the excess and saved me a lot of stress

Got a complaint in and if they don't come up with the goods (waive the excess) it's the ombudsman / FSA route, I don't see why they should just get away with shoddy service scot free... if you don't complain they will keep doing it

Actually I must say Churchill car insurance were absolutely bang on with a recent claim I had, absolutely superb, I had to stop the replacement hire car people from harassing me in the end, cos I didn't actually want one
