Magees Ale.

A little bit before my time, it was supposed to be dynamite with a lot of folk in the 60s taking time of work because of it. The brewery at Daubhill got took over by Greenhalls and started serving slop to the public, i can remember that shite..

Awful days for beer in Bolton.

Used to enjoy Burtonwood ales at the York Inn (is it still there?)

That pub on South Shore in Blackpool whats now a Yates Wine Lodge used to be a Duttons pub. selling OBJ. Oh Be Joyfull.

Was the brewery not called Maggee Marshalls or am I confusing it with something else.

No you are right except there was only one g in Magee. They used to sell it in the bars at Burnden Park. That's where I started my drinking, supping a bottle of Magees while watching the first half.

http://www.bolton.org.uk/comm3.jpg Anybody remember this pub ?

Yes, I've had a few pints in there. It became Mothercare and is now erm I don't know.

Commercial on Bolton precinct?

Way before my time.

In the same boat, it got demolished in 1970 but i still cant remember it, and i had a few pints in the Aspin Club round the corner at 15 in 1969. when Albert Blood used to be the owner.

I remember there being a big building at the bottom of Trinity Street, junction with Bradshawgate which had Magee Marshall Ales either on the side or on the roof.

Wife says she's got distant relatives in the Magee side.

Used to be a load of Magees pubs in Tyldesley when i was a kid, just a bit to young to sample Daubhills finest ales before Greenhalls took them over.

Bank top do Bolton proud it is a decent beer, talking about ale what an abyss of real ale is blackpool, smoothflow shit all over the place at ?3.50 plus a pint and not a cask beer anywhere, what a shithole is that place, it is no wonder I had a banging headache all day Sunday.

Try dropping off in Sheffield in the Globe, supping Stones bitter. Headache from hell after our trips in the E Mids.

Was this the place that turned into Cambrian soft drinks??

It was Danny. A bloke i used to work with was a driver on the ale trucks to the Fylde coast when it was a brewery, he got free ale in the canteen and a pint at every pub for the drop offs.He told me he used to give everyone a sing song on his way back home on the 82 back to Atherton.

what about the second half?

I was still at school and my pocket money didn't run to one at half time.

Don't know what the building was, but the site was the bus station on Howell Croft North I think, vaguely remember using it in the late 60s. Presumably now the of the Octagon theatre
