When I was about 30 my best friend Andy took his own life... it hit me very hard but his father, Johnny, also a close friend of mine and his mother Dot and his brother Alastair were devastated.

 

 

Now 17 years later Alastair has done the same thing at the weekend and leaves Dot and Johnny with the same thing to cope with all over again. He also leaves a wife and 3 young children. My heart goes out to them all.

 

they don't deserve it once, never mind twice.

 

RIP Alastair, but you shouldn't have... no matter what you were going through.

He more than others should've known to try and get help before resorting to suicide. .

I hope parents can get through it but I fear they will carry guilt irrelevant of circumstances.

Depression and mental illness play a huge factor, and believe me, it's fuckin hard to fight, I think about doin it often

There is help out there. if people are feeling depressed and suicidal, go to your GP, you'd be surprised how much help there is. If you want it and make an effort yourself. It's a 2 way street.

 

If he was a working man with a wife and kids you'd be surprised at how little help he'd actually get.

 

Mental health is a fucking vast warped mine field and the services and research are massively under funded.

 

My sympathy goes out to the fella's family.

 

As far as him being selfish if my dealings with depression are owt similar to theirs he may think he did them a favour and they're better off without him. It's nonsense but that's the kind of fucked up shit depression etc can put in your mind.

That's really awful Jazza. Yes, it is a selfish action, but he must have felt it was the only option. It's such a shame he couldn't have tried to seek help especially under previous circumstances. He may have been suffering for all those years since his brothers death. It's a long time to live with depression (I'm making an assumption but it's highly likely).

one of my ex-work colleague's committed suicide earlier this year. chartered structural engineer used to high pressure, multi-million pound jobs at work. proper clever bloke too, I learned loads off him. type of bloke you'd approach with a work problem, and about 30 mins later you realise the question was flawed all along.

 

probably never recovered from the suicide death of his son 20 years ago. plus a couple of other relatively minor triggers once he retired, slow downward spiral, while being treated too, and then for some reason, the end

It is very selfish, however god only knows what must have been going through the poor guys head to make him think that is the only option

selfish ? i think not , very easy to judge from a straight normal point of view, untill you ever get an inckling wot its like to even contemplate what this poor fella did id keep my judgment to my self ,sure its devestating for the fellas family ,,but some say its a cowards way ,, i dont know ,but untill youve been that close to contemplating suicide , youll never understand ,,,and god willing you will never ever have to ,,but it happens to people in all walks of life ,,rip fella and god bless yourpoor family

Just home from his funeral... parents are broken people and wife and kids devastated.

 

 

He had a blow out with his next door neighbour and beat the crap out of him.... he was charged with assault.

 

He had another do with him when let out and took off in his van and gassed himself

 

nobody can explain it
