C86 Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 Wonky,You talking bout my Uncle Bobs on Morris Green Lane? Never charged for gravy Only every went once, very tight with the chips. Back then top of Hulton Lane was better. One facing Stags Head, Deane (Sue's) takes some beatin nowadays.
jayjayoghani Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 Sorry to post a serious reply but.... According to that Making Headlines book recently released, apparently the nickname Trotters relates to the following. In the late 1800's, Bolton folk were notorious for their pranks and practical jokes which was known colloquially as "trotting". Hence the Trotters.
Widnes Two Hats Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 Hartigans was one of the best chippies ever, he may have been a tight old bastard but his plate meat pie, chips, peas, scraps and gravy took a lot of beating And as for Sue's..... spent many a school dinner travelling down there.... them scraps were ragging massive
C86 Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 scraps were ragging massive Hayward v Deane scraps or the scraps on your tray
Widnes Two Hats Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 fish scraps Never went to Hayward or Deane........ They were for proddies
Guest wonky no Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 did your uncle bob have one large arm? That chipper took some persuading. Ahh the days when the s&v were left on the counter. Best chippy in bolton 'ever' award goes to bernards near the chemist on st helens rd, they were queuing round the corner on a thursday tea time. Never the same after they sold it to that dwarf. p.s is a female dwarf a dwarfette?
Alf Hartigan Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 Agreed Wonky,Ginger Bernards was the finest. No really good chippies these days, kebabs and pizzas taken over.
