Nobster
Back to my WW1 tour, went to the Tyne cot memorial and Passchendale ridge in December to visit the grave of my my wife's grandfather. When you stand there in the cold winter weather you get to understand what these heroes went through for us.
seasoned Traveller
I went to Ypres 3 year ago, did a half day tour with some expert, Jesus H Christ, it was beltin, the shit those men went through, wow. I have loads of pictures, but don't know how to upload them. Worth a visit, absolutely mind boggling, when you listen to what soldiers from both sides had to endure. Watch a film Called Beneath Hill 60, madness.
DaisyHWanderer
The last post ceremony in Ypres is a must visit. Very harrowing and nearly reduced me to tears.
bwfcfan5
Surely this is one of the biggest scandals in history? Millions of working class young men conned into joining up to be sent to to a trench and condemned to death by clueless upper class morons. Makes my blood boil thinking about it. WW2 was a necessary evil and we did what we could and prevailed. WW1 was a total abomination and probably the lowest point for the history of all involved.
