January 12, 20215 yr Worth a try The town centre probably needs more but that's down to local government as well. A big help would be investing in a water cannon vehicle to patrol the pedestrianised areas and at least give the scruffs a wash. Offer rent-free deals to get the shops back open Fountains back. Budgies back. Rumbelows back (so long as they've forgotten I owe them £400 and a telly). Put all the pound shops back on Newport St and turn St Andrews court into the North West's first Vegan artisan shopping precinct.

January 12, 20215 yr It's step in the right direction, but it's too little too late, the "town centre" is dead now, even without business rates, the rents will still be too high, so unless that changes, nothing changes. I think smaller "market town" centres still have a chance, with small independent shops, or I'd like ot think they do anyhow. A large town centre, like Bolton or Stevenage (near me) has little or no chance I think

Do see it as an opportunity to re-invent town centres: get more living there and some more independent places providing for them.
