Looked at this ourself, we’re getting them done when we get back off holiday.

A client of mine does windows, asked about triple glazed. He says the best windows are double glazed that are filled with a gas in between the glazing which heat doesn’t really penetrate. Keeps the house warm in winter and cool in summer

Step daughters BF works for a glazing firm. He’s just done her house with argon based double glazing. Reckons triple glazing is a big con. One of those things that sounds good but you really don’t need

Ask for the U value for the glazing, the lower the value the better. The facade engineers on my Linkedin account suggest windows are always the weakness in the thermal envelope so fair play for looking to upgrade them.

What material are your frames going to be? If you are looking at U-Values try and get the full window rather than centre pane and make sure whoever installs them puts insulating material around the outside and seals it properly. No point having top notch windows if they are pissing out heat all around the edge.

Got a quote from a fitter in Abbey village of Internorm - an Austrian company that make triple. Beautiful product with a U rating of 0.62 (no idea what this means).  £25k+ for a detached bungalow including doors and a feature French door and window. Was too expensive for us and even at current energy prices would have taken years to recover the additional cost.

0.62 is very good, especially if it was for the full window.  Put it into perspective it's a good as a wall built before the 1990s and crudely, twice as good as the minimum bregs requirements.

Spoke to the step daughters BF again today

He pretty much said everything that Nowack said

Also, triple glazing, whilst guaranteeing decent insulation is more of a safety feature that’s used 4 floors and upwards to stop folk falling out.
