  1. Was still wondering about this so I thought I'd give the most popular, thriving discussion on the site a bump... Now I know the occupancy at the moment is low... However, I had a look on the site and am I right in thinking all the suites are sold on an individual match by match basis? ie. Is it not possible to buy a season pass for LOV? When the stadium was built they sold them on a ten year basis. I'm not bothered by a pricey meal and drink before or after, but my parents still attend and the benefits of a more relaxed start and end to the game and somewhere warm to spend half time etc mean more to them. They also made friends with other Whites via the suite which was nice for them living away from the town. Does anyone know how the club handle it now? Is it all just pay on the day and full of corporate types and away fans on a jolly?
  2. Brazil looks to be heading to a bad place. Us estimates are now up beyond 200k see the quote I posted further up about them seemingly giving up. I wonder whether attention spans are so short now no one has the capacity for the long game. Good news has been in short supply, but it had failed to get a grip of a developing nation in the way it did in the west. That may be changing, don't like to think of the numbers sick or worse if this goes through a city like Cairo in the way it did NYC or London. Although their age profile may be a mitigating factor. I'm finding my thoughts turning to winter and what a second wave may look like when we can't get out into the sunshine. Hope one of these vaccines comes to save the day.
  3. Shouldn't that be reason enough? I wear a mask and given it's not medical grade that's my primary reason for doing so. If I have picked it up and am asymptomatic it's going to drastically reduce my chances of passing it on. So first reason is a courtesy to the other people in the room. A secondary reason is I think it provides some limited protection as long as you're careful with it. Don't mess with it, don't be touching it, take if off carefully, sanitise hands and then wash it and dry it for several days. I've read a lot of the papers on this subject and the initial scepticism in the West is being replaced by more and more scientists advocating their use for this virus: https://www.pnas.org/content/early/2020/06/10/2009637117 https://www.forbes.com/sites/alicegwalton/2020/06/13/face-masks-may-be-the-key-determinant-of-the-covid-19-curve-study-suggests/#4a8cc0026497 Apologies for the walls of quotes, but with respect I think your advisor is behind the curve on this. It's a bit like vaccinations. If everyone does it the evidence is increasingly strong that we'd be getting through this much quicker. As soon as people start to go their own way, the effectiveness of the measure drops. We really need to get to the point where we see others wearing masks as taking steps to keep us safe and vice versa.
  4. https://theweek.com/speedreads/921086/coronavirus-cases-are-climbing-20-states-10-states-reporting-singleday-records-past-week I found this quote rather chilling:
  5. I usually have to ask them about what they like doing, maybe take them out for dinner and a movie. You moan about the pubs and the school being shut and then its straight to the closing question. You get much joy with this approach?
  6. He sounds like a Harry Potter character. Maybe Wanderers will go for the Quidditch Cup next season.
  7. David Lloyd are talking about early July opening.
  8. Sometimes a promising young coach is paired with an experienced old hand, maybe that would be one way to approach it.
  9. One argument could be that the likihood of getting folk to install multiple apps is probably pretty small. They probably figure they have one chance, with a massive supporting ad campaign and peer pressure to get sufficient installs to make it viable. If they go again with a second app soon after the first they may find people aren't going to bother.
  10. If it helps, I've been to the hospital a lot recently with my Dad and they've been very well drilled with social distancing, ppe and other precautions. Hope all goes well for you and your mum.
  11. Have dusted off battlefield 3 on origin, still one of my favourite fps after many years. Nice to roam around enclosed spaces without fear of anything other than a shotgun in the face. Although I've got my avatar properly masked up. downloaded apex legends which is origin answer to fortnite but not yet begun the humiliation of getting fragged by teenagers.
  12. Ditto. though they do give nice gifts. ive genuinely tried to give folk the benefit of the doubt at each step, so when the potential fatal flaw was identified I hoped they'd come up with a workaround. I know app development somewhat and am sure there were devs promising they could sort it and deliver better than the apple google solution. Thing is, if you do go your own way it needs to work. Clearly it didn't. So yes, pull the plug and go to the alternative, but someone somewhere has to take responsibility for the decision making because it's appearing to be seriously flawed. if it was that tricky a development proposition they could've adopted a twin track approach and developed each app simultaneously, it's that critical to getting the economy up that the costs aren't really a factor in comparison. As it is, it feels like on this or on the timing of lockdown etc that there's an impulse to be radical and look for big wins. I'd sooner there was a much greater attention to small details and steady progress. I have no problem in seeing briefings conducted by boring, dull, competent people making no promises they can't back up.
  13. The South and the West of the US are seeing infection rates increasing: https://www.npr.org/2020/06/14/876786952/health-experts-link-rise-in-arizona-coronavirus-cases-to-end-of-stay-at-home-ord I'm worried that the NW is going to go the same way.
  14. It would be nice if we could get a young up and coming manager like Ricketts,, in part because it would suggest there's backing to go along with ambition. From the choice above however I voted for Nigel Clough, on the basis he's experience at managing successfully on low budgets. Not sure whether this is pragmatism or pessimism. Maybe a bit of both...
  15. Awhile back I was in the 'give him the start of next season' camp, largely because of his experience at the level. With his contract up though it looks like the sensible call to have a new face for what will be largely a new team. On a personal level I liked him and wasn't bothered by the odd remark. There's room in this world for eccentrics, but if they win football matches it can help the bizarre comments sail by.
  16. Be sure to tell the guy in the shop that you want one with a 'remote control'. Sorry for the 'jargon' but it's all the rage with the newest tv's. Basically it's a special box you can use to change the channel without getting up! Some of them are even wireless. If the guy looks puzzled just repeat yourself in a loud voice. They may not have heard of it yet, but trust me I think it's going to catch on.
  17. I need to fuck about to take my mind off being on the wagon...
  18. I'm 11.5 or I'd take you up on it. If the half size isn't available I sometimes get away with 11's but it depends on the make. 12's make me feel like I've two ocean liners strapped to my feet.
  19. I fancy a pair of Samba's for old times sake. Where's good to get them?
  20. I'm not vegan myself but I can't have dairy so I often find myself looking at the vegan options. The last couple of years they've really improved. Had a go at making non dairy ice cream yesterday. I used canned coconut milk, sugar and a bit of cornflour. Tonight I'll see if its edible, not getting my hopes up based on what went into the freezer.
  21. Aaraon Eckhart. Very good in 'The Company of Men' a very dark comedy. He's done a lot of B movie rubbish, Battlefield Los Angeles, The Core, Olympus has fallen etc. Coming to the end of 'Goliath' season one on Prime and can recommend. Excellent cast, great locations, good writing and it manages to get a blend of comedy and drama that works pretty well.
  22. I thought we were supposed to be holding our breaths? Its been months now, don't say it was all for nothing?
  23. Only until your bank account is fully drained.
  24. I know the overall trend is down and we get these fluctuations after the weekend but seeing figures like this, at this stage, it's difficult to get to grips to just how badly we've done collectively. I hope there's at least one competent person left in the country to lead the inevitable public enquiry. The least we can do for those who have died is to make sure that every lesson that we can possibly learn is identified and acted upon.
