I was at the Molineux cup-tie too, as well as those home ties. But wasn't allowed to go to the Charity Shield; I had homework to do & parents were more strict back then.

And the 1950s Cup ties with Stoke, Wolves & again with Preston. All around 53K. I woz there, and strangely (given the disaster was still fairly recent) didn't feel unsafe, though dad took us in the Burnden & Manny Rd paddocks, not the more usual Embankmentment or Lever End. Maybe he was thinking of the disaster, which he just missed. But then crowds were massive after WWII.

But Rioch and Allardyce couldn't spend freely, without Board permission. Didn't Rioch struggle to get the money to buy David Lee. Just one example. Traditionally a Board says what money a manager has available, & he decides who needs signing.
