I still think Stoke at Wembley was a worse day.
We had better players than Black Sunday. We had poorer opposition. And it was a big public stage.
At least Black Sunday was more or less a private affair, and we had pretty much lower-level players against a top team. Though some fight from our players would have been nice.
Sporting Lisbon v Porto
On a London Whites weekend in Lisbon, at Sporting's old stadium.
Little thinking we'd be playing there (new stadium ) a few years later.
The only business plan for us is to be a yo-yo club (in & out of the PL) until we build up a big war chest. No spending on average players on big/long contracts..
"The 180m". ? Plus all the PL tv money for 11 seasons, and sponsorships, merchandise sales. According to the paperwork, we must have spent near to half a billion pounds for that brief period in the sun.
The club is owned by a multi-millionaire.
A tax bill of around £2m, run up under his ownership, is overdue for payment.
The club is being taken to court on a winding up order over the tax bill.
The club has recently sold assets worth £10m or so.
Those are the facts as I understand them. Have I got anything wrong ?
The logic escapes me.
