  1. True gent, and a great player. RIP Nat.
  2. Mate, you're talking bollocks in some areas. I think you're falling into the trap of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. You clearly had fuck all understanding of Premiership club finances before you started getting Account's info, otherwise it wouldn't have come as a shock to you. Is Bolton's debt any worse in comparitive terms than Chelsea's should Abramovich decide to up sticks? Is it a more worrying situation than United who are putting out a Bond issue? City losing ?92m last year? They're all situations bought about at the whim/behest of the owner. Rather than just quoting random figures from the Accounts, what is the point you're trying to make? Is there one? Or you just want to show that you can buy Burnden Leisure's Accounts from Companies House (like any other fecker can)? I see from your website that it all started out with Newcastle. Dunno if it's correct to draw the inference that you are a Newcastle fan from that, but when we're talking about fans not being able to see a good thing in the middle of a bad one, Newcastle fans are top of the league. Obviously Premier League status should be governed by how many deluded bastards you can cram in to hear some fat bloke singing (or owning) your team. The site also seems to make the contention that all Newcastle Revenue is effectively income generated by the fans. In the case of Bolton, you appear to be making the point that actually that's not true - the revenue largely comes from Sky - which is correct, but in the Newcastle section, you argue that it's fan generated. Which way do you want it arguing? When it comes down to it, many teams are owned by an individual or a couple of individuals. If that status quo changed, they'd be in the shit. The idea to float clubs as going concerns on the market failed miserably because no one in the business world could see a reason to invest in something that largely they'd have to pump money into. Bolton's financial model isn't sustainable unless Davis wants to continue financing it. Neither are many other Clubs financial models including Newcastle's, City's, Chelsea's, Villa's (?) when you consider that Bolton's payroll has yet to exceed Newcastle's 2003 figure and in the intervening period before Newcastle were relegated, Bolton finished above them in 3 of the 6 seasons - twice by over 10 points - and fairly close to them (within 3 points) in another 2. So who made the really shite investments? Bolton or Newcastle?
  3. The point I was making was that Soccerbase doesn't help much as it shows neither the capital outlay nor the year on year change. The cash that's gone out of the Club isn't on Soccerbase, it's in Note 25 to the accounts. To me that's a better guide. There are a number of possible lines of thought on whether Big Sam had it right (other than the results speak for themselves) One is he had it bob-on, but the squad had little or no re-sale value (other than Anelka, Diouf and Nolan), the other is that he didn't invest heavily enough in the future (preferring to look at the here and now). I'm sure the ginger tosser we've just got shut of would argue that there's more re-sale value in the squad we have now as the overall NBV is higher. The reality is that the NBV figure only shows you what's been paid over time, not what the market would pay for who you've bought. And with that I shall head back into retirement at the risk of boring any more of the posters shitless.
  4. The acquisitons part only shows the increase in the amortised amount - not the total amount.
  5. It is indeed easy to make mistakes. You're use of Soccerbase is one such. It reports a headline figure that allegedly is the transfer fee without taking into consideration what proportion or that fee is amortised (doesn't go out of the Club in the same Accounting period) and sits within intangible fixed assets. If you want to find the Capital outlay in any particular year on players, you need to look at Note 28 (usually somewhere round there) to track the actual cash heading out of the Club on player purchase - don't forget to look at the cash inflows too, to ensure you have some sort of balanced picture. You can't just use the football stadium as an asset of the football club as the hotel is part of the Group's assets and the Accounts are prepared at that level. The actual cashflow figure for the 2007/8 FY was +?2.49m There was ?12.38m in cash outlay and ?14.87m in income (on player dealings). This is because when a player is sold, the amount sitting in the intangible fixed assets comes off the books too (as the Club no longer has to pay those sums). So yes, your figure of minus ?10m is incorrect for the 08 FY. The figure for the 07 FY was (net) minus ?10m or so, when we purchased Anelka, Miete etc. If I was you, I'd probably go read some books on Accounting, then come back and have another go.
  6. Gomis has signed a new contract at Etienne...
  7. Think Gartside has a bit of a problem though - in his (IMO) silly slanging match with BSA all through the closed season, he hailed Lee as the Second Coming and all of a sudden we were going to be playing like Brazil....hard to shunt someone with those qualities 9 games into a season.
  8. Capello isn't doing anything at the moment and I hear he's always wanted to work with Nicky Hunt...
