Gartside has to report to Eddie Davis i would imagine about whats happening etc?and i'm not sure someone with 94.5% share in the business would sit there and let things get out of hand? if they do? then thats very poor! but can't imagine they would. October 11, 200718 yr Think Gartside has a bit of a problem though - in his (IMO) silly slanging match with BSA all through the closed season, he hailed Lee as the Second Coming and all of a sudden we were going to be playing like Brazil....hard to shunt someone with those qualities 9 games into a season.

October 12, 200718 yr More speculation from the Guardian: Sammy Lee's position at Bolton Wanderers was looking increasingly fragile last night as the club's board contemplated the repercussions of his falling-out with Gary Speed. Phil Gartside, the Bolton chairman, was deeply unimpressed that Lee had alienated a consummate professional such as Speed and that concern was shared by the club's owner, Eddie Davies. Speed relinquished his duties as first-team coach yesterday after a series of arguments culminated in him being left out of the squad, along with the captain Kevin Nolan, for Sunday's 1-0 defeat against Chelsea. Lee is now facing something approaching mutiny among his players, many of whom sympathise with Speed, and Nolan, and have expressed their concerns to an exasperated Gartside. The chairman in turn has spoken to Davies about how much longer they should give a manager who has taken only five points from nine Premier League games. Everyone associated with Bolton is entitled to fear the worst in their next game, against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow week, but Gartside is looking to the game against Aston Villa on October 28 as the one to determine whether Lee is sacked. Lee can hardly complain after winning only one league game since replacing Sam Allardyce towards the end of last season. The feeling within the dressing room is that he had begun to see Speed as a "threat". Sources close to the midfielder have gone as far as calling Lee "insecure and paranoid". Speed had recently agreed, but not signed, a new contract which would have made him assistant manager, but he has been sceptical about Lee ever since the manager's appointment. Although Bolton claimed, somewhat disingenuously, that Speed had been "relieved of his coaching responsibilities", the decision was very much his own, in protest at Lee's management. "I decided it wasn't working out," he said. "It is up to me now to work hard, get back in the team and give 100%, as I always do." Increasingly flustered in interviews and sensitive to any form of criticism, Lee is upset by several leaks from inside the club, describing them as "malignant rumours emanating from the dressingroom". One story is of senior players refusing to do interviews after the defeat to Birmingham City last month because they did not want to offer Lee their backing. "Who are these people?" Lee demanded to know last night. "It's time for these 'senior sources' to stand up and be counted. I know it's not everybody, but I'd like those one or two to come and knock on my door." He added: "I hear things about my methods but I've been with these lads for two years and I've been at the FA and with Liverpool. All I'm trying to do is make sure we can compete on all fronts. It's bitterly disappointing these things are leaking out. People are trying to undermine what we are trying to do." Those quotes show for me that he has indeed lost the dressingroom.

They're hardly gonna come out and say he has for numerous reasons, but for him to ask in the press for people to come forward that have been talking behind his back is naive and gives him an air of desperation again - he should be talking to his players in-house, not through the 4th estate.

Maybe I'm wrong and there'll be a "us versus the world" attitude that tends to work well, but I can't help feeling something is just not right amongst the playing / coaching staff

We did not realise what we had until we lost it in Big Sam. I was annoyed at how he left but I reckon he became disillusioned in January when given no money to spend yet again.

I was annoyed at how he left but I reckon he became disillusioned in January when given no money to spend yet again. which in turn points to Eddie Davies and Phil Gartside - they had the chance to back the best post-wr manager this club has had - and they failed to do so. a quick fix appointment of an untried manager in the Premiership is a huge gamble. a club with lots of money and star players - yes, you can possibly get away with it short term. look at Man City, nothing but a struggle with Pearce. brought in a "proper" manager and they are flying. we HAVE THE PLAYERS at this club - its all about bringing the best out of them and also every last drop of sweat, energy and blood. Allardyce (and his backroom) were capable of doing this. Sammy Lee and his gang of Liverpudlian misfits isn't. I'll back him whilst he's the manager - because its not my position to sack him. But I won't lose any sleep when the chop comes. I just hope Gartside has the guts to stand down with him. Most worrying now though, is Speed being lined up?

I cant remember any other leaks that have come out lately. Speed, Nolan and Hunt were dropped (justifiably IMO) without a word. LSL's actions speak louder than any leaks.

The results certainly haven't. We are back to playing the old formation and the football is similarly poor. The last game was probably an exception, but we always seem to start well against the 'bigger' teams and then if we don't score early when we have the chances, we fade away.

The last game was probably an exception, but we always seem to start well against the 'bigger' teams and then if we don't score early when we have the chances, we fade away. and you know what the worst bit about it all is I'd personally say that the poor run coincides with the poor form of the midfield from Christmas onwards and the inability of either Sam to drop them and look at who are the ones making the most noises - Nolan, Speed and Campo other Sam wouldn't drop them and Lee seems unable to decide which ones to drop and how to deal with the situation correctly
