Schuey played him as winger last season as we wouldn't be using wingbacks this season, and he was rubbish. He wasn't even a good wingback.

Johnston has never been quick but always been slight and 5 ft 11. That's his problem.

The goal he scored today came from gale cutting inside though.

He swapped them over and they were worse on the other side. That actually stalled us as we lost momentum. That's the type of player they are. They are modern wingers. Inverted wingers. It's not fucking 1995 anymore. There's no Ryan Giggs in the modern game. They might need to work on the crossing but they both come inside like 90 percent of wingers nowadays.

I'd say burstows was a clear chance that he put over the bar. And the overhead kick he should of got on target. Blackpool 0 shots on target but 1 nil up. A classic Bolton stat line.

That's a clear penalty.

We've created enough chances, but again can't hit the target.

It's not Evatt ball. We concede first and they put everyone behind the ball and double up. Problem is we aren't getting our shots on target. Burstow should have done better. Amario had a chance and didn't get it on target.

We've signed wingers this off season to allow us up play primarily a 4231. You can't play two up top with 2 wingers. Barely any team plays 442 anymore, and those that do certainly don't have two out and out wingers playing in the 4. How do you realistically expect us to line up with two forwards playing?. We've all seen enough of three at the back and wingbacks. I just don't see a world where we can play two up top from the start. Course there will be times when we are chasing the game but no way we regularly go 2 up top. You can't just not have an attacking midfielder In this set up . If mcatee and Randall aren't up to it, it'll be try someone else in the squad in the 10 for a few months, before addressing it again in January.

It's not that complicated with Randall. He's a 10. He's a perfect profile for a 10. He always played in the hole behind the forward(s) everywhere he's been.. I honestly don't think he could play anywhere else. He just couldn't play deeper ( known as a 6 or an 8). Doesn't have the defensive qualities or stamina to play deeper. Couldn't tackle a 10 year old. He couldn't play wide. With Mcatee I honestly don't know where his best position is. Based on the small sample size I don't think he is a 10. He's not creative enough. I honestly think he's a striker. But he needs to play off somebody because he has a tendency to drop deeper. He didn't suit playing with Collins. He suited playing with devante cole at Barnsley who got 18/19 goals and stayed central, whilst he chipped in with 12.

We didn't have a 10 role under Evatt. It was a 352 , two forwards. Neither was a 10. Mcatee tended to drop deeper and act like the 10, but he was still asked to be the main forward and run in behind. Collins still drifted out wide a lot more often. He certainly did not drop in the hole between midfield and striker very often.

He got both his shots on target today though, so there's some improvement. Should of scored both but I'm willing to give him time

Collins was never a 10. He spent most of his time starting centrally and drifting wide. Not the profile of a 10. He's not a 10. He's best on the left of a front three.

End of the day if we don't want teams sitting in a low block and time wasting all game don't give shit goals away first. Garbage defending. Someone pull up the updated stat of how many we've conceded compared to shots we've conceded. The percentage of opposition shots going in is ridiculous.

You concede an early goal you get them doubling up on the wingers forcing them inside. Anyone who thinks it's as simple as switching them is kidding themselves. It's too slow and too passive. They aren't even having to work hard defensively. We haven't put one decent cross in. They've put about 5/6. They pile bodies in the box. We have burstow and Randall. We need to figure out a way to get more shots. I'm not sure lumping the ball in against these will work. They've got about 8 players all 6 ft 2.

Unless your 5 ft 11 Johnston against a 6 Ft 3 forward.
