So would I. i was comparing Nombe with Sidibeh. Better all- round player and useful as backup. He’s better than Burstow too in my view.

Sam Nombe played well against us, and scored. He’s probably one, though not the main one. Reasonably cheap now considering Rotherham’s situation.

I suppose it’s the retained list next week. Any thoughts? Release for Dempsey, and the loans come to mind. I think some of those out on loan like Abimbola might get moved on. Edit - paulhanley, beat me to it, and probably nailed it with your views

Can’t remember the game but I remember the article in the following days BEN. ’Shire’ had missed his bus from, I think it was Hunger Hill, and ran all the way to Burnden to make kick-off. He was man of the match. League Cup 1971-1972. We beat Man City 1-0. He marked Franny Lee out of the game. He had been stuck in traffic on the M61. Must have been in someone’s car so he got out and ran to the ground.

Many thanks for those comments. Those irritations are the very ones I, and others, were highlighting which is why I started by by saying that I thought that SKY had overstretched their available expertise. It is very frustrating to hear that the match is continuing while the director lingers on the bench or the replays.

Not just me then! I also get a bit frustrated when a couple of players who have had a bit of a tussle throughout the game are obviously going to set to it after the final whistle. You can hear the commentator saying “ hello, there’s a bit of afters going on here!” while we are watching the coaches shaking hands. Naughty I know, but it’s all part of the spectacle for me. Ever since the Dave Higson moments and the infamous Wolves match 👹

A few observations on the broadcast of Wanderers live games: - SKY are obviously, to my mind, spreading their expertise a little too thinly. Whoever the director is for our games is obsessed with multiple replays from all of the angles available, even while the game is in progress. Even more annoying is the habit of dwelling on individual players, or worse the bench, when the action on the pitch has restarted. Crowd scenes and manager shots have their place but they are held for too long in my view. - the commentator for SKY is clearly not at the ground. They only see what we see. That is evidenced by their reading of the on-screen captions which we can all read for ourselves and which often block the view of the action. - there was a match earlier in the season, I can't remember which, where the SKY feed from the stadium was lost completely. The commentator was also blind to the action and had to mumble on apologetically. Presumably Derek Clark and Super John could continue commentating on Wanderers TV. There is often debate on here about actual attendances, particularly for midweek games. I presume the TV audience is not included either, because the club would be double-counting ST holders and the eventual total would end up greater than the stadium capacity. I just wondered whether the club ever published the Wanderers TV audience figures, many of whom are using VPN 😉?

In fairness, I have no evidence that either Thomason or Forrester’s names had been circulated but we all expected a clearout and SS has said that there will be more exits. I like both players but the squad is still imbalanced. With the arrivals of Taylor, and particularly Simons, it is hard to see where either Thomason or Forrester could get regular outings. They could raise significant funds to beef up the strike force. Dan and Lolos won’t generate anything more than their savings in wages.

I suggested earlier that, at this level, bids were normally ( though obviously not always) made for players whose names had been circulated. If you see “SALE” in a shop window you expect prices to be lower.

I have vivid memories from the Carlisle game because I was down at the front behind the goal on the embankment and looking up when Wyn leapt to head the ball I was sure his knees were above the heads of the defenders. Sure enough there were photos on the back pages of the papers the following day. The photographers used to be on the grassy slope at the side of the embankment goal and they got some great photos.

One of my first BWFC heroes. Regular scorer alongside Franny Lee. I saw him score 3 hat-tricks, Southampton, Carlisle and Preston. I’m sure the Carlisle hat-trick was a night match and 3 headers. Great bloke.
