I'll put my tin hat on here, McAtee was good at looking busy in fits and starts but, over the course of games didn't do anywhere near enough. I strongly suspect SS has told him so.

If he has said he's lost 6kg over Summer it's good and it's honest of him but it's also an admission that he wasn't fit enough last season.

He's never a number 9 in the memory of man and spent other large portions of the season in some weird wide position dropping inside and being asked to find the underlap or overlap which was more often than not cut off.

Here's hoping in a proper inside forward role he can use his tenacity to forge things for our new wide men and no9.

If he doesn't he won't be playing.

My Barnsley contact said he didn't really have a defined position for them, tending to float around largely on the right but close enough to their strikers. For me, he does his best work when he's close to other players to exchange passes with, use some of the nifty footwork he does have and quickly get shots off. If he's enabled to spend more time around the box / the D he can do damage

That's how I remember him against us. He was a right pain in the arse in those play off games.

Evatt clearly went for him because of those games, he was bang at it and that presence is clearly something we missed.

There was countless games last season where Mcatee had the opportunity to take the common sense approach and get in the box during attacks but he'd rather fart about trying to play one twos which resulted in us having no fucker in there and attacks died out.
