SAM ALLARDYCE has released eight players after announcing his retained list for the 2005/06 season.

Anthony Barness, Julio Cesar, Charlie Comyn-Platt, Fernando Hierro (retired), Florent Laville, Kevin Poole, Ricky Shakes and Jason Talbot have all been released by the Wanderes.

 

 

The Club is also negotiating new terms with Vincent Candela. The former French international signed a short term contract in Janaury, which expires next month.

Going off that then 14 players left we would need around another 8 coming in to maintain what we have to play for next season - maybe Europe has come a season or two too soon

Hamann in for Kaku and a possible replacement for Nolan.

 

Reckon a decent striker and midfielder is needed. Will also be interesting to see if he gives O'Brien a chance.

 

I also saw that Lee Clark at Fulham is available. Always thought him a decent player and would a good squad player. Don't reckon he's off to Sunderland either

Not one of Sam's favourites though. I thought he served us well when he had chance.

I would have kept Barness and Cesar from that list of players, even if it just meant that they filled in when the squad was stretched (i.e Christmas games, Euro games).

 

I think Laville was unlucky not to get a fresh chance after he came back from injury, but having said that it was obvious from his performances in reserves that he wouldn't be the same player again if he came back into the first team.
