No, but I might have a picture of one of your lot crying when you were relegated at the Boleyn in 1996...

I thought we got relegated at home to Southampton in 1996 :-k

Nope, officially at the Boleyn in April 1996.

Cottee scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win, was chatting to a Bolton fan in the queue for the station after the match about it.

But that link tells us nothing but your results for that season. You were relegated at our place that season and finished 9 points off safety..

Listen pal.

I was sat in a hostel in Australia watching Bolton play Southampton and relegate us.

Not West Ham at Upton Park.

As I'm sure you'll agree, this kind of memory doesn't really erode with time.

From the Bolton Evening News

First published Monday 29th Apr 1996.

WANDERERS 0 SOUTHAMPTON 1 THE axe finally falls. After weeks in the comdemned cell, Wanderers' relegation fate is sealed. It was inevitable and, with QPR, Coventry and Manchester City all winning, purely academic. Sadly they went out with a whimper when they had hoped to end on a high note.

anyway............anyone got that picture ?

we were relegated the moment messers todd and mcfarland were invovled.

Ok, hands up I was wrong.

That result at UP left you 6 points off safety with just 2 to play. The fat lady wasnt singing but she was sure whistling loudly!

So we were not relegated at your ground then. We were relegated at home to southampton - so why would there have been tears at Upton Park?

You were as good as relegated, thats why.

We had the same feeling at your place 3 years ago.

I remember that Southampton game - now that was an atmosphere...................but I woudn't call it a pleasant one. :-$ The older lads in the paddock were fighting with each other during the game, missiles were being thrown into the away end & after the match eveyone made their way to the away car park, only for the police and dogs to be out waiting for them.

Memories :D

If i remember rightly 3 years ago Bolton did not actually put West Ham down, but our game at the Reebok did have a massive say. West Ham went down at Birmingham, and we survived against Boro on the last day of the season.

Correct.

We actually went above you after our penultimate game for about 2 hours.

By playing that game 2 hours after ours, you had a massive advantage that day. Still, like the murphys - I'm not bitter!

We drew at Southampton, if it had nt been for the MASSIVE advantage we may have thought we would have been ok just losing !!

How the fcuk was it an advantage ?

So its not an advantage knowing our result and that a draw would be good enough for you?

Had both games KO'd at the same time, your mental mind may have been different and you could have played for a win rather than a draw...

correct me if i am wrong but you beat chelsea.

a draw would have been good enough whatever your result.

my point that i am struggling to get over is that given you won, playing later made no difference.
