Okocha: Refused to take pay-cut

Wages row led to Okocha departure

Nigerian playmaker Jay-Jay Okocha was released by Bolton because he refused to take a pay-cut at The Reebok, according to reports.

The former Trotters captain is now looking for a new club following four inspirational seasons in the North-West.

Manager Sam Allardyce announced Okocha's departure just hours after the final game of the season - a 1-0 home win against Birmingham.

A source close to the player told Nigeria's Kick Off magazine: "Bolton asked Jay-Jay to take a pay cut and when he rejected this proposal, they decided to let him go. It was as simple as that."

The source claims Okocha has already received offers from three Premiership clubs but "they are not as attractive as he would want".

Al Rayan of Qatar and Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia are among some of the other clubs who have expressed an interest in securing his services.

I don't see any other team in the Premiership offering him the sort of wage he was on at Bolton last year, especially as he will no doubt want a 2 year deal

so it would seem theres nobody in the prem willing to pay him what he wants, not just us

Yep agreed, would be nice to know who the other 3 Prem teams are;

Pompey, Villa and Blackburn I reckon.

I can see Wigan being in for him as well

Yep, good call forgot about them.

If he done in year 4 what he did in year 2 then he would still be earning last years wages.

best off without him.

I'd say him and bruno have freed up ??60k a week.

Na, I think JJ was on ??30k and there is no way Bruno was on more than ??15

Bruno must have been on more than just ??15, I would have thought around ??10K :D

Seriously though, if we have freed up c??40K per week, then we could get another 3-4 players in for that I would have thought

no way Bruno was on more than ??15

load of rumours - it was all done very quick for it to be something like this - had it been money, surely there would have been more talk than the time it took to say bye bye.

for the record, I'd have loved him to stay, but Sam gets these decisions right more often than not, so onwards and upwards.[/b]

I still have a gut feeling JJ will do an about turn and re-sign for less money.

JJ ??36k a week I reckon. Bruno ??15k a week. That's ??51k a week freed up.

Bruno on more than that about ??30k

both bruno and jayjay were on the same wage

between 30 and 35 thousand

both the top earners at the club

It's all conjecture.

Nobody really knows and now it's irrelevant.

They're moving on and so should we.

I still have a gut feeling JJ will do an about turn and re-sign for less money.

Really wouldn't surprise me.

i can't see it happening, i want it to but the latest i heard is that Dingles blackburn and City are after him.

JJ ??36k a week I reckon. Bruno ??15k a week. That's ??51k a week freed up.
