Bringing Entertainment Back Into Football

Featured Replies

Following on from my ???Is Football Boring???? post, I think it???s time I contacted FIFA, UEFA and the Premier League and let them know how they can put a stop to the current trend of negative, boring football.

Be honest, boring football has now hit the greatest competition in the world. The World Cup should be a celebration of the greatest players in the world, the players should be beating five defenders and then chipping the goalkeeper, or cracking in 35 yard volleys, or putting together 137 passes before tapping the ball into the net. But what do we get? Teams only interested in avoiding defeat and moaning about a bit of sun.

The answer is simple: change the points system. In the Premiership it???s currently 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and bugger all for a defeat. But under my points system the following would apply:

3 points for a win

1 point if you score three goals with an extra point if you score five or more goals

1 point for a scoring draw

0 points for a defeat or 0-0 draw

So if you win 5-0 you get 5 points

But even if you draw 3-3 you still pick up 2 points

Even if you lose 10-3, you still get 1 point

Draw 0-0 and you get 0 points

Brilliant isn???t it? No one can deny it would encourage attacking play. No more boring 0-0 draws and every team going out with the aim of scoring 3 goals even if they concede 4. If my points system was in use in Germany right now no way would Paraguay and Trinidad & Tobago come out to defend with 10 men behind the goal like they did yesterday.

I realise this points system would probably put Sam Allardyce out of a job as he would have to ditch his cautious approach but wouldn???t it be worth it? Don???t we all want to see attacking football and bags of goals?

I will forward this message to FIFA and the Premier League but I???m sure you all agree I???m onto a winner.

So would putting land mines in the field, and not telling the players , the team with the most players at the end wins ... would also help to cut the wage bill

maybe they could have a player who picks the ball up to and runs down the wing..

maybe change the ball shape a bit too..

oo hang on..

Added time multi-ball!!!

A new photo opportunity for the lovely Heather McCartney-Mills maybe?

Sexist! How about us lovely ladies, we need to be catered for. How about going back to making them wear shiny Adidas shorts like back in the late 80's. The tighter that better!! Even Des Walker looked half decent in them, well, no but you know what I mean! :D

Off topic a little but those nudey pics of Heather McGolddigger from back whenever don't do her justice. Think we should start a campaign to get her to resurrect her topless modelling.

She's a tasty piece, even with one leg she'd get it!! :D

All players to have comedy names like

Razak Pimpong

Gilles Yapi Yapo

Jerko Leko

Takashi Fukunishi

And all teams to be also have comedy names a'la

Deportivo Wanka

Young Boys Bern

etc etc

There are some top ideas on here today, I will forward them all to my contact at FIFA.

Eh get in there Jimmy whilst she's still single as I can see her being snapped up quickly being such a unmaterialistic, genuine person, they'll be queuing up!

Just wondering, you really would be getting the leg over wouldn't you?

more points arent needed

goal difference and goals scored counts after points

that does the same job as more points would

Ok - in the interest of balance, you can have naked male referees for all the Women's football matches.

Thanks but let's be honest, us ladies are good at a lot of things but football isn't really one of them!

Did you not see the two German goals v Costa Rica, Gerrard last night, Kaku for Brazil, Saudi Arabia's goal to name but a few. There's been loads of good goals in this wc. People think its the lighter ball, so there's your answer. End of topic.

At the end of the day it does not matter how the good or bad the goal was its a goal and only counts as one

First of all, the number of goals scored in Premier League has been steady for at least a decade

Not sure about last season but if it were different, that would be a blip, not a trend

Anyway Natasha, a league with low goals in it tends to suggest a high standard of play and competition

If it's points you're after I'd suggest you watch Basketball love

At the end of the day it does not matter how the good or bad the goal was its a goal and only counts as one

If you went to the cinema would you expect to see a film made by your local student union on a 73p budget or the latest blockbuster featuring the biggest names in film?

If you went to an expensive Michelin Star restaurant would you expect your meal to be cooked by an experienced chef or Greasy Dave from Dave???s Mobile Burgers?

If you went to the Reading Festival would you expect to see Chas n Dave or the biggest names in pop and rock?

The fact is, at the World Cup you expect to see the best players playing the game to the highest standard possible.

this includes the best defenders in the world

that's the idea of the game - you defend one goal and attack the other - it pays to be good at both :D
