Agreed, it has got us where we are now, but this depends on the wide men getting forward and supporting the lone striker.

 

If we went 5-3-2 at least we have 2 strikers up front spear heading the attack.

If Anelka is to sign for the club then surely 4-5-1 is out of the question, isn't it?

 

I can just see him getting through Davies' work as a lone front man. Or grafting up and down the length of the West Stand in his role as support striker/auxiliary full back.

 

The dearth of central defenders at the club - three, and one of those almost certainly still fancies himself in midfield - means any variation on the 5-3-2 theme is a virtual non-starter.

 

That really only leaves a return to the much-missed 4-4-2 formation, with Diouf and Davies offering alternative means of support to the new fella should he put in an appearance.

 

 

The absence of a creative midfield player is a worry regardless of what shape we adopt, mind....
