4-4-2 On The Horizon?

Featured Replies

SAM ALLARDYCE has not ruled out a change in Bolton Wanderers' playing system - if it suited a striker he recruited.

The Wanderers boss has spent all summer on the lookout to recruit a leading hitman to bolster his frontline, but has suffered a series of knockbacks.

But Allardyce will consider tinkering his system if it suits the striker he wishes to bring in.

"Depending on how good and the size in quality of the player we brought in we could change the system to suit him," said Allardyce.

"We would like to find a player that would fit into the system we already use because it has served us well. But I would change the system if we could get that top goalscorer."

Yesterday's formation against Spurs worked fine.

4-1-2-3

and this would work with another 'proven' goal scorer in the ranks.

It was 4-5-1

The way we always play

The official formation was 4-1-2-3

But I agree, it worked well and was effective

Thank-you

4-5-1 for me, Vaz looked lost again but why not give him 5 or 6 straight starts to see if he grows up. Stalwarts like campo, nolly and big kev came to the party yesterday, imposed themselves and won the game. The next two games will be interesting in terms of how the season could pan out. Two wins and we would be flying, 4 points would be well done, two draws would be good and one ok. Two losses would be worrying but forgotten with a following home win.

looked like 4-1-4-1 to me

4 defenders

5 in midfield

1 striker

4 defenders

5 in midfield

1 striker

you see that on the telly?

there were times when vaz te was central, he was playing deep enough to be an additional midfielder

to me, its the great thing about our 'formation'

nobody knows what we're doing

least of all the other side

made to stand in a 4-1-4-1 fomation

This is true, what I do know is KD was standing next to their stump of a left back when Jussi was hoofing it up :D

4 - Defenders (Fortune, Meite, Hunt & Tel Ben Haim)

1 - Campo as a Sweeper

2 - Mifield (Nolan and Speed)

3 - Attack (Vaz Te, Davies & El Hadji Diouf)

yep and when he has another striker alongside who can feed off him it will be 2 up front a la Everton. But, who would you drop?

I'm sceptical in the extreme about changing what has been a hugely successful system for the sake of the mythical 20 goals a season man.

I just don't see how it will work if we play a classic 'strike partnership'.

The holding midfielder is a key part of our team so I assume that position stays...with the two other midielders you need...I guess we'd play a 'diamond' formation with one behind the striker?

4-1-2-1-2 if you like.

I'd rather buy a striker who can play in the system we already have.

If we did play 4-4-2 and Anelka was the mystery 20 goal striker, who would be in the starting 11 (if all players were fit)?

Mine is as follows:

Jussi

O'brien Tallyban Meite Ricardo

Stelios Campo Nobby Dioufy

Davies Le Sulk

davies doesnt play directly upfront, he more often that not plays wide on the left or the right, therefore leaving it open for anelka to be our front man.

it would be....

jussi

hunt, meite, tbh, fortune

campo

nolan speed

davies stelios

anelka

the top 3 always change positions and more often than not anelka would end up running towards the wing and crossing for davies running in from a wider position, their is absolutley no reason to change our current formation

or to leave out diouf!!!

i'd say the obvious solution is anelka for vaz te
