England B

I've had a quick look round and haven't seen this mentioned yet. Kevin Davies is set to be named alonside Owen & Defoe in the England B Squad playing at Burnley. Also there is some talk of our very own Captain Fantastic may be included.

Now I can see some reasoning behind including Davies, as the lad is as good at what he does as anyone in the league IMO. Whether or not you can get away with steaming into defenders and winning honest brave challenges at international level remains to be seen. But if it happens then well done KD, but at 30 has any real chance of winning a full cap passed him by........probably.

Kevin Davies is an absolute hero.

However, his touch isn't good enough for international football. Nothing I would love more than for this rumour to be true on the other hand. It certainly would give him the recognition he deserves, and furthermore is another kick in the teeth for those clubs who had no belief in his ability in the past.

He's from the Ivory Coast and plays for their side. He has lived the majority of his life in France though.

that makes him french in my book.

have you seen him when fouled, he is french.

My mistake. Davies.

For me Davies is one-dimensional. IMO international players need to have more than one string to their bow.

Shearer was better than Davies at holding the ball up. But he could also do a lot of other things well too.

Ashton has the potential to play a similar role to Shearer. Certainly at top flight level. Time will tell if he could at international level.

My main point however is simply that Davies is not a good enough all round player to play for England.

And you're right. Can't argue with any of the above.

Agree totally, Imagine how great he'd feel after getting a full cap. It's a great reward for coming so far and working so hard.

The Squad

Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Ben Foster (Manchester United, on loan at Watford)

Defenders: Phil Neville (Everton), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Ledley King (Tottenham), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Nicky Shorey (Reading)

Midfielders: Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Phil Jagielka (Sheffield United), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), Kieron Dyer (Newcastle), Scott Parker (Newcastle), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), David Bentley (Blackburn)

Forwards: Michael Owen (Newcastle), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Alan Smith (Manchester United), David Nugent (Preston)

No Davies or Nolan, yet jagielka gets the nod.
