PEDERSEN TEMPTS TIGERS

 

Henrik Pedersen has held talks with Hull and received a timely tonic from an old team-mate after being discarded by Bolton.

 

Former Denmark international Pedersen, 32, left the Trotters last month after failing to secure a new contract following Sam Allardyce's departure.

 

Allardyce had a gentleman's agreement to hand the striker a new deal, but his departure to Newcastle saw Pedersen cast aside by Sammy Lee.

 

However, Hull manager Phil Brown, who knows all about Pedersen from his time as Allardyce's assistant at Bolton, hopes to tie up the player's signature after talks were held between the two parties.

 

Per Frandsen, a former Bolton midfield favourite, works for the Copenhagen-based First Artist management agency that aims to broker the deal.

 

And he is in no doubt about Pedersen's ability to still cut it in English football, despite an Achilles injury which dogged him last season.

 

Frandsen said: "Henrik would be a great asset to whoever he plays for in the Championship because he can run all day.

 

"He's strong and quick and it would be no problem for him to play in the Championship, if that's what he decides to do.

 

"He's been a great servant for Bolton - he had six great years there - and he's definitely got a few more years left in him.

 

"He's only 32 and hopefully his future will become clearer this week."

 

Pedersen scored 29 goals in 170 appearances for Bolton, but his performance in the 4-1 defeat at Manchester United in March proved to be his last for the club.

 

Hull, recently bought for ?10million by media mogul Paul Duffen, are also hoping to sign Bryan Hughes on a free transfer from Charlton.

Henrik Pedersen expects former club Bolton to continue being successful under Sammy Lee.

The Danish striker is a free agent following his release by Bolton at the end of last season and is looking to find a new club in England.

 

But after six seasons at The Reebok Stadium he is still going to follow Bolton with interest, and is confident the future will be bright for the club.

 

Sam Allardyce and Tal Ben Haim may have left and there is also speculation about Nicolas Anelka's future, but Pedersen does not believe fans should be unduly worried.

 

"Big Sam has gone and most people probably thought he should have got the England job ahead of (Steve) McClaren," he said.

 

"So it was probably the right time for him to move on, especially with Bolton qualifying for Europe and Sam leaving it in Sammy Lee's good hands to take even further.

 

"There's still so many good players there and I'm confident they will continue to build on everything that was achieved under Allardyce.

 

"There's Kevin Nolan, Kevin Davies, Stelios, Anelka, (El-Hadji) Diouf, Nicky Hunt and hopefully Joey O'Brien will be back to compete for a place this season."

 

Jussi Jaaskelainen has confirmed he will stay at Bolton to honour the final year of his contract and Pedersen believes that is a huge boost for the club.

 

"It's great news because he's one of the top three goalkeepers in the Premiership," he explained.

 

"He's worth a good few points during the course of the season."

 

Pedersen, who is tipped to join Hull, added: "I loved my time at Bolton but it's now it's about moving on.

 

"My agent is speaking to different clubs and hopefully I will be sorted with a new club soon."
