A great story behind that. Used to be called Fred's Cap - after the great man.

Well Mrs Dibnah the third tried to get her greedy hands into Bank Top by demanding payment for the use of Fred's name.

The lads at Bank Top told her were to go and changed the name of their best selling brew.

We were told that the timing of this demand from Mrs Dibnah III and the introduction of two new brews from Bank Top (Gold Digger and Old Slapper) was totally coincidental!

As Bromley X has stated, book in advance with a few months notice.

Open the Pavilion to guests from 7.00ish. We stayed until 9.30 but I think it is stay as long as you want.

Our party was limited to 12 (as we squeezed in with another booking) but more is possible if you get in first.

I wouldnt risk having a smoke even though the landlord gives it the OK doesn't mean the Council blokes won't bung you a ?50 on the spot fine.

As a matter of fact I will be having a Blonde Witch in there on my rounds this afternoon on my well earned day off.

Well they've stopped recently. In there Saturday and they didn't have it on. He stocks mainly Moorhouse's bitters.

Heard rumours that Swan/Barristers fell out with Bank Top.

One thing I learned from the Bank Top tour is if landlords don't keep the beer correctly they'll refuse to supply that pub. Reckoned that the bad name it generates isn't worth the hassle.

The guy who did the tour was scathing about the landlord of the Kings Head in Deane.

Not sure if that's the reason they (BT & Barristers) fell out though.

Where the fook is that?

The bar attached to the Swan. It used to be called the Malt & Hops as I recall.

Full of old beardy pseudo-intellectual types too. You know the ones: they think they know everything after a couple of pints, when really they just talk shit.

Plus the place will stink of smoke.

Spot on JJ.

Told us a few tales of Landlords who ring up Bank Top to call their beer shite, having tried to serve it within hours of it being delivered!

I take it the clientele come on WWays then.

T'is a good night

We paid an extra ?2 for a pie and pea supper at the carters arms

I have to say though the mix of ale and pie and peas was a recipe for disaster for my undercrackers

That would be the 'old' landlord, not the present incumbent. Flat Cap is no longer served unfortunately, due no doubt, to the arseole mentioned above. He reckoned he knew everything there was to know about running pubs - he had apparently run 'hundreds'. I don't think he ever cleaned the pub while he was there - the gents were a disgrace.

He couldn't run a bath

They've knocked that option on the head.

Something to do with it attracting light-weights who wanted the food more than the beer. :drinks:
